Hi guys!
I have a 33 ACT composite, a 3.7 simple GPA, 4.5 weighted GPA, top 10% of my class, 9 AP classes
I am the president of my own created club- JSA (4 years)
I tutor kids (4 years)
I volunteer for the CT Special olympics (4 years)
I play soccer for my school (2 years)
I am a class officer (2 years)
National Honor Society (2 years)
What are my chances of: Northwestern/Duke/Rice/BC/BU/Ivy League/Stanford/NYU
Thank you so much!
I’m gonna assume you’re a senior because a few of your ECs are for 4 years… no idea tho. Your ACT score is good but only about average at most of those schools. The distinguishing factor is normally ECs, essays and recs. No idea how good your recs and essays are but your ECs are just mediocre and don’t exactly show dedication. Special olympics is normally a few weeks a year and NHS is for everyone;however, tutoring kids and starting a club is awesome.
Northwestern: Reach
Duke: Reach
Rice:Low Reach
BC: High match/match
BU:High Match your scores will help you tons!
Ivy League: Dependent on the school…HYP, Columbia, Brown and Penn: High reach because of grades and ECs and for Cornell: Low reach
Stanford: Reach because of lacking ECs and grades
NYU: High match depending on school(Stern is very hard to get in to)
You’ll probably get into northwestern,BU, BC, and possibly nyu. Ivies like brown and Cornell are probably a low reach and the rest are reaches
@fightingillini7 you might be underestimating NU. They’ve gotten pretty insane from the looks of it!
Interesting! So what would you guys say I would need to change the most in order to get into the reach schools? I am a junior and I simply projected that I would be doing the ECs I listed in my senior year.
@whodatjaguar Did you also predict test scores and AP classes too…? Please at least post what you have now compared to what you think you’ll get. Chancing a non-existant person is absolutely pointless. I’d recommend that you work on your ECs and try to bring that GPA up.
no I did not predict test scores, and I have already scheduled for the AP classes I noted. My GPA is as of now
@whodatjaguar so you’ll graduate with 9? Alright… really just work on bringing the GPA up and ECs. Your ACT score is good as is.
What good last year ECs would you advise for?
@whodatjaguar It’s hard to recommend anything especially as a senior. There’s a good chance if you do too much it’ll look like you’re just padding your application. Find something you enjoy and do it. Do you enjoy sports? Coach a team! Do you enjoy working with kids? Help at an after school program. Do you enjoy literature? Work at a library. Really just make sure it is stuff you’ll enjoy.
It is hard to do much about you GPA in the time you have left, but do what you can. If you can get your test scores up further, it can help compensate for your GPA, too. Normally a 33 might be good enough for quite a few of these schools, but with a 3.7 you need to strengthen other parts of your app if you can. You are down to only 1-2 semesters to raise your GPA, which can be tough.
Your ECs are fine, but they don’t have the “pop” of being unusual and very high achieving that tends to be needed for the very top schools (HYPS).
HYPS/Stanford:reach(unpredictable)-ECs are good but not competitive enough.
NU:reach
NYU: low reach
BC: match
BU: match, a bit of high match?
