Hey guys a I’m a sophomore in highschool, honestly I’m the most hardworking individual, a person will ever meet on the
Other hand entering highschool my freshmen year was extremely tough. My family isn’t the richest if you know what I mean and I was extremely motivated to do my best in high school to improve and improve my families financial status. My work ethic is Ivy League material. I love working hard, but unfortunately I don’t isn’t work up to my goals as I wanted, my freshman year I did football, a sport I wasn’t experienced in getting a 2.0 struggling academically, during my second semester I got a 3.0 which wasn’t what I worked up to but still I saw it as a improvement.
Quitting football I decided to focus on education, over the summer I became different thinking that I quit to early. I tried football again, this time trying hard as I could but again only getting just above a 2.0 to 2.17I’m in my second semester know and soon to get a 4.0, junior year 4.64, senior year 4.75 would these grades along with other things such as competing in weightlifting, having low family income, being the president of 2 clubs, getting a associates degree in a nearby community college, community service, good counselor and teacher review, becoming a academic athlete, good essay as well as high sat and act scores get me into nyu.
If you guys have any questions please let me know.
Also I forgot to add but I moved from lausd district to a more competitive and strict district where kids take pre cal freshmen and sophomore year.
- NYU is the wrong school to apply to with low family income. Their financial aid is horrendous. It costs $72k/year to go to NYU, including housing and etc. Even with significant financial aid of a maximum of 45k/year, can your parents still shell out $30k a year for you to attend?
- If your “Ivy League material” work ethic only netted you a maximum GPA of 3.0 your sophomore year, with a 2.5 GPA freshman year, I doubt you can jump to a 4.0 for your junior/senior years.
- Student athlete won’t help much for NYU. It’s a city school; it doesn’t have a football team.
You have a very low chance of getting in with your current stats. Realistically, you should set your sights on your state school. In the event that you get a 4.0 GPA in both your junior and senior years along with scoring at least a 30 or 31 on the ACT, THEN you would have a good chance that NYU would take you. If football is dragging your grades down and you don’t love playing it, I would advise you to drop it.
Choose wisely @Isaac_Thomas the financial aid loop can be tricky in the long run.
@Isaac_Thomas the only way to know for sure is to apply. No one knows on this board what your chances are. Just continue to work hard and improve your grades and study hard for the ACT/SAT. Good luck to you.
Keep doing what you’re doing!! You will get into a good college. Look for financial aid!! Good luck my friend you sound like an awesome guy.
