I have an avg of 2200 on practice SAT tests, so that should give u some idea.

Um, you are in x100.

scholarship?

Are you an international student??
I'm assuming that based on your EC's.

I have no idea what scholarships are offered to international students, you'd have to call the school for that or go here:

http://www.asu.edu/studentaffairs/ed/iso/

About the admissions, just like most US universities, the admissions process for internationals can be quite crazy, but you seem like a strong candidate, but I honestly do not know much about international admissions. Maybe somebody who knows can clarify.

Sorry.

k thanks for your reply I appreciate it! Which other colleges do you think I can get into that provide aerospace as major?(if possible aid too)

if your grades are that good why are you looking at Arizona State??? look at at someplace like UCLA or Florida not Arizona State...

finance man finanace

ajay, I'm instate in AZ, and I can tell you first hand that ASU is NOT a good school.

If you're in it to save some cash though, they should award you a good scholarship.

If they don't award you a presidential scholarship just walk imo

what makes you say that mate?

They accept anybody who has a beating heart at ASU. It's basically a huge community college.

People in the Phoenix and the people who run ASU are constantly upset because ASU experiences what it calls "Brain Drain." All the top students leave the state and go elsewhere, no matter how lucrative the offers from ASU are.

I know kids who pulled straight Ds through HS who are getting unconditional acceptances. Kids who've never done anything but party and ride their dirt bikes. Tons of them. In other states these people would be going to community college, but here they go to ASU.

Classes are huge and crowded, the dorms are old and nasty, and the honors program is geared mainly towards OOSers (which, if you're OOS is a moot issue, but don't expect to see many Arizonans here -- they use it as a hook for people outside the state)

The Business program, as well as the Journalism program, are actually quite good, but that's about where it ends. As for an alumni network in the actual city of phoenix, it's not as strong as you might think.

On a side note, I've applied, been accepted to ASU Business college directly and also the Honors college. But after visiting many times, working in the Tempe area right by ASU, and talking with my friends who currently go there, I've personally realized it's worth the extra money to go elsewhere.

I don't know, I'm sorry to sound like such a jerk, but this is kinda a touchy subject for me because I really wanted to stay in phoenix.. but the options just don't warrant it.

You have amazing stats Ajacy, i've seen you around these forums a lot, please visit ASU at the very least before coming here. This is the perfect time of year too, right before it turns miserably hot. The concrete jungle of Tempe is awesome this time of year :)

^^ You realize he is an international student, and the funding for int. students is terrible, and most top universities are EXTREMELY hard to get into, right?? He does have amazing stats, but so do thousands and thousands of international students every year, all competing for the same limited spots. If anything, ASU is a great option for internationals, along with UofA.

I don't think he can just jump continents to visit if he is worried about finances in the first place.

Some people have different experiences. I know plenty of top students who have enjoyed ASU, and felt that if anything, the ability to stand out within such a large setting is a better experience than going to a college with very little students, and having everything handed to you.

I'm in-state too, but I've never been condescending enough to say that I PERSONALLY know that ASU is good/bad, because how can you personally know the experience if you've never actually experienced it?

My opinions are not condescending. I'm just being completely honest as to what I believe.

As I've already mentioned, I know many people who go there, I've been on campus many times, I've worked in the Tempe area for many years.

I agree that U of A is an excellent choice. I personally believe that ASU is not. I doubt that Ajay is going to base his choice solely upon my opinion. But with all the positive vibes going here it's important that Ajay perhaps hear a different side of the argument, eh?

So, like I said earlier, I'm a biased source, take what I said into consideration, along with that of Christalena and others.

As for jumping continents, I wasn't aware that he was an international student, I should've read more closely. My mistake.

Good luck to you ajayc, and to you as well Christalena, perhaps I was a little too nasty in my denunciation, but this is a life decision and I believe whole-heartedly that he deserves both sides of the equation.

You will have an easy time getting in to ASU. I am currently a Sophmore Computer Science major. Probably from your accomplishments I suspect you want a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Systems Engineering.

The Computing and Informatics is a good place to be in ASU - for one thing they have their own building separate from the rest of engineering on the lovely mill avenue (just don't stay around the Zone or whatever its name is bar after ten at night). There is a lot of money being thrown around as a result for the Computing Department.

Both Intel, Goggle have a presence in the area. Additionally, IBM and Raytheon do development 100 miles to the south in Tucson. Personally, I'm planning on interning at IBM.

The dorms vary considerably. With your credentials you are likely to get into the honors college. If you can get into the honors college is a major honor - while ASU may not the best school it has one of the best honors colleges in the country - from my own expierence and the various publications praising it.

The honors dorms are not all honors students however, about 30% are not, in fact some of the honors people can be quite dim, but there is always a core group of bright people. ASU will have new dorms for honors students in 2008. I would not recommend living anywhere else the first year - the average GPA for all the dorms outside honors is under 3. Most other dorms suffer from an excess of drinking and lawlessness. I have seen ambulances pull off three students from McClintock hall alone for alcohol poisoning - most of the dorms are worse.

The Best halls are self enclosed unlike the rest of the honors dorms and you get know everyone very well for good or ill. The rest of the dorms open up to the Tempe heat and as a result there is not as much interaction. However, students in Best hall have no control over heating and cooling unlike Hayden. Irish has the highest percentage of intelligent people, but the dorm facilities are the worst of the lot.

I hope this helps, I've been around a lot to know the ropes of the bureacracy and various places.

thanks for your help guys. I still cant figure out on how this thread without me noticing it....

btw are my stats good enough for the honors program?

Latest Stats : http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=335204

Well, the deadline for applying is May 31st, and its a rolling admissions for the honors college as well, so if you are going to apply, do it RIGHT NOW!

I applied in November, with ok/pretty good stats and ec's, and got in. If I applied right now, I would definitely be rejected.

To get in the honors college is more subjective than simple raw scores. There is a separate application where you fill information about work experience, volunteering, activities and awards, and an essay. You definitely have the ec's down, and the scores, but really, apply quickly.

I will be applying for next year :)

oh whoops.

but I sure will apply for ASU's honors program! {If they cover my costs :D }
