My chances...

Hi, this is my first post here.

I'm an Indian-American junior, living in West Virginia. I was born here.

I consider myself pretty damn smart, but I don't really think my grades show for it that much.

Ninth Grade Year:

Honors English 9 - 85
U.S. History - 100
Geometry - 92
Science - 96

I transferred from a private academy to a public school during my ninth grade year, so I only got four credits the first year.

Tenth Grade:

First Semester

Honors Engliish 10 - 90
Honors Algebra 2 - 89
Science 10 - 96
Spanish 2 - 94

Second Semester
Algebra 3 - Not really sure, but I did get a C in there. It is either between a 78-83.
Advanced Chemistry - 93
World History - 93
Gym - 100

ECs:
- Volunteer at a hopsital a couple days a week
- President of the Young Democrats
- Key Club
- Spanish Club
- I won got first place in a statewide essay contest for Memorial Day, pretty big deal at my school.
- I received a 30/30 on the WV Writing Assesment.
-I'm going to take a bunch of AP Classes next year. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to get all A's next year and raise my GPA to 3.7
- I led my school to 2nd Place in the WV Geography Bowl
- Who's Who
- I got nominated for the Math National Honors Award or whatever, but I forgot to send back the application

My GPA right now is a 3.5, but like I said, but I can improve it. Sadly, we don't have a weighted system here, we just get 5 extra credit points in our AP classes. So a 3.7 is the highest I'll be able to get.

I feel really bad that I got a C in a class like Algebra 3. It was a really hard class and I did it just to increase my knowledge of math to help me in the SATs and ACTs. Am I screwed now? Or will the college admissions people appreciate that I took an advanced, optional class like Algebra 3?

Also, I took the ACTs a few months ago and without studying I got a 25. This isn't that great; but I left all of the Trigonometry questions on my test blank because I didn't know how to do any of them, and I didn't realize you could guess. I think that I will definantly be able to score high on the ACTs and SATs once I start studying hardcore. My ACTs will definantly be 31+ and my SATs should be high too, because I plan to spend a lot of time and money into preparing for them.

Do I still have a chance of getting into some good college? Are there any good colleges outside of my state that I could get a full-ride to? I was thinking about Virginia Tech or Case Western, but I need to get a large scholarship to be able to pay for it.

I know I will get a full ride to West Virignia University, but I don't really want to go there.

So, can anyone just give me an idea of what sort of schools I could get in, and what sort of schools would give me a full ride?

Also, I could get all A's in my senior year too, but wouldn't I have to send a college application before my second semester senior year?

Wouldn't you also have to send an application before your first semester of senior year. Check the Due Dates..

I dunno. I'm just saying, my GPA can only get to 3.7 Max, without my junior year.

For now, you've gotta accept your 25 as your score. There's no need to get your hopes up and delude yourself, start looking at schools in your range. Hopefully, you'll raise your score but let's not get ahead of ourselves. Pouring money from your coffers doesn't guarantee good scores. Not sure what your chances are at those schools, I'm not from the region... best of luck,

TTG

I got a 25 as Sophomore, no studying at all, and without taking Trigonometry.

I just took it to try it out and I've got to accept it as my score? Umm, no.

I understand the feeling of thinking we're smarter than we're able to prove...if money's an issue and you're aiming for higher than you can quite reach, think about going to WVU for dirt cheap, putting in a bang-up semester and transferring yer behind out. One semester will not kill you, and its a way of getting rid of core requirements and having a fresh start. You've got a road ahead, but be realistic and put together a quality app., and you may get lucky

Dude - Musask's right, you know. I got a 202 or 205 sophmore year Psat. 235 junior year. You improve with time - it just comes with maturing and knowledge.
25 isn't your score.

You can expect around a 29 by next year - your 31 is VERY possible with studying. Test taking skill comes with practice, and you get a lot Jr Year.

algebra 3?

Maybe its pre-calc?

It's not Trig/Pre Calc... it's just a really advanced Algebra class, obviously after Algebra 2.

I really didn't prepare at all for my ACTs, which is why I'm not considering it my real score until I actually prepare for it. I'm going to put a lot of time into studying for it.

My ACT Plan composite score was a 28 and I was in the 98th Percentile. I guess I thought that was pretty good, but you guys might not think so, lol.

that C is going to hurt you
