my chances?

any comments would be appreciated. my ec's are pretty weak so im wondering whether you think my grades make up for it. do i still have a chance? and do you think AP scores matter? my ap scores arent too good

um thats it, haha.

also needed: where exactly you are applying, race (ORM, URM), legacy status, number of languages

Will chance after I get all that. ;)

um im thinking about applying to either to SEAS or School of Arts and Sciences. i’m really not too sure right now. i’m an asian, no legacy, i speak fluent english and basic korean (i can say “i’m hungry” or “hello”, stuff like that).

you’re ORM with a poor linguistic base but you’re not applying to Wharton. You got a fair shot. If your A+ in English is indicative of strong essays, you earn an upgrade to strong candidate.

edit: thank you for using Necrophiliac chancing service. We appreciate your business.

^ number of languages is not even a part of the criteria. maybe for Huntsman it has some relevance, but otherwise, a single foreign language studied in high school is fine.

But as I parse your EC’s, it all seems a little thin. Seems like you spend the majority of your time doing school work. I’ve subtracted academic awards because they’re just given based on good grades, as well as the different honor societies. That leaves you with tennis in the spring time and your position as treasurer of church youth group. Basically, you do very little outside of school work.

Another hint: don’t try to snow the adcom with a misleading EC list. Elaborating on your tennis and church involvement is better than throwing it in with a list of random filler.

alright thanks for your comments. so you think i should leave out the honor societies unless i become an officer for one of them?

you should include them in the list…but your two real activities should be listed first and explained(there’s space on the common app to explain your activities)

i thought there is only space to explain one ec on the app. are you taking about the 250 word explanation part?

well, there are spaces under each activity you list to write a short description of your activity. If you think that the space is not big enough to do your activity justice, you can elaborate in the additional information section

Your not even 1% your 0% lol; that’s very impressive. Based off of this, I think you have a pretty decent shot.

haha thanks. but my ecs are pretty ordinary.

How in the word is UPenn going to know how well you are in Korean? (The answer: they are not)

But honestly, if you can get a higher SAT and more ECs, you have a great chance. That’s pretty much all you have to do.
