My College Chances for Stanford

Hey I'm thinking about Stanford Early Action next year. I'm currently a Junior. Here's who I am:

Race: Asian
Gender: Male
State: NC

SAT Highest Score: 2220 (770 M, 740 Wr, 710 CR, 8 Essay)

SAT Superscore: 2250 (800M, 740 Wr, 710 CR, 8 Essay)

SAT II: plan on taking BIO(M) and Chem, USH

Unweighted GPA: 3.89 (1 B+ in a computer elective [language was not JAva, C++ or Python, very seldom used])

Weighted GPA: 5.303

AP Exams (AP Scholar with Distinction):Taken: World History (4), Government and Politics (4), Biology (5), Calculus AB (5), Statistics (5), Chinese (5) Will Take this year: USH, Calc BC, Physics B, English Language and Comp, Chemistry, Environmental Science

Awards: Qualified for AIME twice (not sure if this counts as an award), 4th Place at State Ocean Science Bowl, 2 JV medals at Science Olympaid (2nd and 3rd), 3 time participant at NAQT Quiz Bowl Nationals

Academic Extracurriculars: Science Bowl, Ocean Science Bowl, Science Olympiad, Physics Club, Math Club, Investment Club, Quiz Bowl, WRAL Brain Game

Non-academic Extracurriculars: 1st place at regional piano competitions

Leadership: Founded/Organized region's first middle school science bowl tournament

Community: Church pianist, math teacher assistant, Volunteer at computer refurbishing for poor

Job: Research Assistant at NC State Department of Horticulture

Future: Plan to enter Siemens Research Competition as a Team

So what are my chances? What do I need to do to better my chances? This could be like more AP's, enter this competition or program, etc. Thanks!

Stanford will be a high reach; not to be harsh but there are a lot of asian males applying with scientific backgrounds. Siemens could be a boost if you do well, internships look good, club leadership is a plus. Make sure to kill it on your essays and get great recs

I think you have a good chance! but if its true that asians have a lower chance, then it might be more difficult? I’m asian too

If I’m interested in engineering, biochem, compsci, which colleges would be sure locks for me (other than UNC/NC State).

I disagree, I say match, you have some pretty good achievements, and your weighted gpa is so high, and stanford isn’t a ivy league so it shouldn’t be that hard to get in. You have a solid chance. If they don’t accept you, I don’t know what kind of students they accept.

^^^^^
I hate to be harsh, but this is absolutely wrong. Stanford is a mid-reach, and you are by no means a shoe-in. To the above poster: just because a school is not Ivy League does not mean that it isn’t selective. MIT, CalTech, Stanford, and UChicago are all more selective that certain Ivies (Cornell, for example).

Stanford is not a match for anyone. However, this should not discourage you from applying.

standford will be hard for Asian so don’t count on it. there was a good article on washington post 3 years ago about an asian boy from DC area who applied Standford early and got waitlisted. His stats was phenomenal, much much more impressive than th3 OP’s (sorry). He was shocked and applied to every Ivy, and Julliard or Peabody for piano performance. He got in every one of those. But Standford still didn’t change its decision. He is at Harvard now.

Sent from my Nexus 7 using CC

Pretty low, I’d say. You’re clearly one of those “stack as many insignificant EC’s as possible” type applicant, whom colleges easily see through.

Why always the race card? I don’t understand the fixation on race for CC? The monitor needs to start cleaning it up.

@syoung2 omg you weren’t joking, 6.6% acceptance rate!? wow… @Iamdumadumbguy oh im sorry, this school IS selective Stanford - high match , sorry =[

What would be a significant EC I could add besides Siemens?

How much will being nominated and participating in the National level of chem oly help? If I happen to make Top 150 will that help?
