I just finished my first semester of college. This semester I made 2 B-'s and 1 B+ and my GPA this semester is a 2.9. I thought at least I would make a 3.0. I have already cried so many times over my low GPA this semester. The classes I took this semester were really hard: one was a science class, the other 2 classes were social science courses. I feel so disappointed and I worked my hardest this semester. Next semester I plan to work harder to make, if possible, all A's but I am afraid that I will take hard courses next semester. What should I do to pull up my GPA next semester?

Study harder

Study, make use of office hours, form study groups with friends, etc. Sometimes, students’ GPAs aren’t as good as they expected for their first semester. My sister was an A student in high school and made a 3.0 for her first semester. College is challenging. I’m sure you’ll do better next semester!

I’m confused…why, back in a June, did you say you were already at a four year college with a 3.8 GPA and were thinking about transferring back then…? Now you are just finishing your first semester with a 2.9… Which is it?

I’m also curious about what @Sdgal2 brought up. Last (academic) year you said you had already achieved a 3.8 after a year at a small LAC hoping to transfer to Pitzer (or another west coast school)? How old are you? What year are you? What’s your real GPA?

Assuming this is legit… is there a writing center on your campus? Find out their rules for making appointments/helping review your papers, and use them as much as possible. Also, take your books/study materials to dinner, and keep right on going to the library after dinner. Don’t go back to your dorm, too many distractions and you may never get started on studying.
