My country?

Hi fellow CCs. Go straight to a question: When I started to fill my application form, it was question about geography of my country. I live in Kazakhstan and it's officially in Central Asia.
But in application form there were just options like: Indian Subcontinent ( India, Bangladesh, Pakistan etc.), East Asia ( China, Korea, Japan etc), Southern East Asia ( Vietnam, Indonesia etc) and West Asia( Turkey, Arabian countries).
30% of territory of Kazakhstan situated in Europe and another 70% in Central Asia. I'm really confused. I will appreciate all your answers.
Thank you

Well, which territory are YOU situated in?

Thank you for asking this question, as my son is Kazakh. Isn’t Kazakhstan also considered “Eastern Europe”? I’m not sure what to put as his ethnicity as he is from Kazakhstan, has Kazakh and Russian biological parents, is raised by Caucasian parents and is from a part of Kazakhstan that is just south of Russia.

I think “other” is an option :-)

Does it matter from which part of country I’m?

Crazymomster, your son is from kazakhstan and going to apply MIT? Why doesn’t he apply as a citizen of America? Because acceptance rate for international students is much less than that of American citizens.

Oh yes, he is an American citizen. His (my) issue is a bit different than yours. I’m wondering what ethnicity he should put :-).

Is Eastern European an option for you to put?

U said 30% is in europe and 70% in asia. So i asked which side ur in. If ur not sure. Check either european, other(then i think they will give u a blank to fill in), or not reporting. You dont wanna align urself with asians, trust me. If ur int’l, they will know ehrre ur from anyways

I just looked up Kazakhstan in the EC directory, and as far as the MIT Educational Council is concerned, it is Asian. That is what you should probably put down. I have visited Kazakhstan, and I certainly felt that it was Asian, and I am quite surprised to hear that 30% of it is considered European. That strikes me as very odd.

It means I should choose East Asia?

West Asia.
