well, i know they're going to be different questions, but a lot of them you can use the same funny stories, anecdotes, thoughts, etc.

Yeah. In my interview I didn't even talk much about myself, with the exception of the "Why do you want to go to UCLA?" question. We'll see if the next round is different.

Good job on your interview, Nobleboy! You certainly worked for it.

I was invited to an interview in my area as well (oh, just a one-hour drive in the rain each way), but I didn't qualify. The panel asked me the JFK quote question first, which threw me off since I hadn't expected such.. unique questions. The other ones asked about "three criteria you used to select colleges and to which did you apply to," "if you could be asked one question what would it be and why," and "tell us a joke" (that one was the weirdest, but the easiest to come up with an answer for). I wish I had practiced because I was so nervous that I stumbled and paused a lot. >_< And I really needed the money. Oh well. I'm going to try to send the panel a thank you letter tomorrow.

I heard that if the students who make it to finals decide not to go to UCLA, the alumni association will give the scholarship to someone else. Maybe someone can clarify this. Or anyone who didn't go to finals can just wait and see.

Omg... Most of those questions I can handle, but the joke one? I would TOTALLY PANIC. I couldn't even think of one off the top of my head if my friends asked, let alone the district interviewers for a huge scholarship at the school I'm dying to go to!!! I'm going to prepare to answer that just in case.

I really should send them a thank you note... I don't have their addresses...

wow the joke one I would die on for sure.

for a thank you note, maybe you can send it to the person in c/o the alumni center?

to nobleguy05: congrats!! i'm so happy for you :) i got an alumni scholarship but i didn't get invited to compete for the 15,000.. and yes, i think it's 15,000 too, but i could just be stupid and kinda out of it.. haha.. but anyway, i'm not too good with random questions, haha.. i'm more used to the standard philosophical-miss-america-idealized-BS type stuff.. haha jk.. GOOD LUCK AT STATE FINALS!

sweetdreams87, I think I'll do that. I'm waiting until I hear if I made state before I send the note.

whatnemesismenas, congrats on your scholarship!!! I appreciate your good luck wishes. I'm not totally sure if I made it to state yet, I go on Sunday for one final interview. Five will interview, two will make it. I really hope I make it. But if not, I still have $4,000. Thanks!!!

:)
