UCLA Alumni Scholarship - Anyone got interview request?

According to one of the representatives, the interviews will be held on/before June 24th. This is less than two weeks away, and I still have not received any interview requests from the UCLAlumni.

Since there are lots of outstanding candidates who's applied to the scholarship, I'm not expecting much of a result. However, I just want to know whether they have started sending out interview requests to anyone here.

i did my interview already

how did they contact you? via email? phone call? letter?

phone call, they called me last week. 9 were selected from the los angeles disctrict as finalists, and only 3 are gonna get it.

i did. it was pretty intense.

i don't know how many for the bay area got it...nor do i know how many people are receiving the scholarship.

but actually...since i submitted my sir to both berkeley and ucla, i had to withdraw from one a few days ago...i chose to go to berkeley.

which is a shame if i did get that scholarship! i probably wouldn't, even if i did go to la...

hell yeah it was intense; i didnt get it. I got a call the following day saying something like "we decided to give it to other recipients"

marytwee, why did u decide on berk? are u from the bay?

dude, i had no idea it was going to be that intense. i was thinking maybe it would be one or two people asking me a few questions about why i wanted the scholarship or something. having like...six people surround you at a desk (very confrontational-esque) asking you these tough questions was crazy.

i haven't received anything back from them, yet. they told me they would email me...but again, since im going to cal, this doesnt really apply.

sort of, yeah. moved to san jose a year ago...but really haven't gotten a full taste of the bay area. but i chose berkeley because i love the bay area...i love how everything is really close by, the people, the awesome public transportation system, the laidback vibe...i just really fit this area a lot, and it seems conducive to what i want to accomplish.

but it was hard letting go of la, let me tell ya...!

lol, i wanted to go to berkeley, but i chose LA cuz im from LA and i have lived here all my life so it seemed like the easier choice, kinda like yours.

But yeah, the interview was intense, but mine had 10 alumni in the room! so i had more! and the questions were all weird. They probably gave it to the nerdy azn; they prolly liked him cuz he fitted the bill--nerd, ugly, and obsessive lol...:)

hmmmm ....that's a stereotype right there mojo. I'm Asian. I ain't nerdy nor obsessive.

I wasnt stereotyping; he was really nerdy and obsessive.

WOW. 10 is insane.

I didn't meet any of the other students who applied for the scholarship! Hmmm...I wonder what they're like...

I was able to see 2 of them, one before the interview and one after lol

Holy ****. I got it.

I won the UCLA alumni association community college transfer scholarship.

I am totally in shock right now. I thought I was a serious goner after the interviews...it was over for me.

The bottom line is I already chose another school. I still can't believe it, though.

Curious, but how many of these scholarships do they award each year?

um, it depends on the district; like for the LA district, it was 3 out of 9.
There are a lot of districts in Cali. So i assume around 100-300 students prolly got it.

oh, and i forgot to say congrats lol! but you arent going anyways :p

well, that scholarship isnt really worth it anyways. They make you do 30 hours of community service (Oh hell no!!); I would rather be working or be doing internships with that time!

Have fun at berk :)! Your experience there is prolly worth more than that scholarship!

Thanks, mojojojo. :)

While it's true that it sucks to do 30 hours of service, you get free printing privileges at the alumni center...free printing privileges...!! Isn't that worth it?? :P

I feel better now that I know a fairly good amount of students receive it, too.

free printing privileges? lol i got my own printer :p
