My dartmouth interviewer is my next door neighbor-Anything special I should do?

I had my interview today and I found out that he lives literally 2 houses down from my house and went to the same HS I attend and my friend's dad was his teacher. Should I do anything special (i.e special thank you gift?)?

I'm planning on writing him a thank you card and maybe buying a minor gift...what do you think would be appropriate? (i.e.maybe a pie?)

A pie seems excessive, but a nice handwritten card would be nice.

I don’t think that gifts OR thank you letters are normal for alumni interviews.

A note would be plenty. If you really want to give them something, as a neighbor, and you aren’t much of a cook, my advice is to buy a bag of Nestle chocolate chips and make the Toll House Cookie recipe on the back (leaving out the nuts  ). Bought baked goods are usually inferior. Home made cookies are always in good taste and taste good.

Tidy up your yard.

Thank you notes are standard. If you want to make yours a bit more personal or detailed than the standard “Thanks for interviewing me. I enjoyed our conversation” do so. I agree that a pie seems a bit much, and that store-bought baked goods, unless from a quality bakery, are usually not as good. A few cookies or some jam plus a note would be very nice.

Just a standard thank you note… and be sure to wave every time you see him around the neighborhood from now on!

I’d avoid throwing loud, drunken parties at your house. Wait until you actually get to Dartmouth. LOL
