My Experience At UCLA This Week (UCLA Transfers READ)

Read up folks, these are the kinds of people you’ll meet at UCLA.

Have fun!

I love that you can totally get lost on campus. If you come at the school from the wrong way, it will seem as if the North Campus is in the southernly direction. This happened to me the other day when I accidently ended up on Gayley Ave. I spent an hour trying to find the child care center and even after getting a map and directions from an info booth, I kept thinking to myself that there was no way I was in the South Campus part of the school.

Good times.

“Read up folks, these are the kinds of people you’ll meet at UCLA”

As long as you avoid “hinjyx” everyone else is amiable.

As for the campus, it’s magnificent. :)

[ul]
[] if 50% of your friends had jobs (a figure that obviously isn’t being embellished), and you think that the same figure applies to the rest of the school, you’re out of your skull.
[] add up the total value of cars in the faculty parking lot at calablackless… then count off, at random, the same number of cars from the student parking lot… i’d nearly put my life on the student lot adding up to twice as much.
[] i never said anything about ‘plowing’, you rogue… i can’t explain why they came to me, since, obviously, i don’t have any redeeming qualities… they were probably lashing out because daddy made them settle for the 323i instead of the X5.
[] why don’t you want to get deep with me? homophobic, too? eh, you’re already bigoted, valueless, egocentric and entitled… why not add to the list.
[/ul]

since people are getting annoyed, i’m done.
it’s been fun, as always
i <3 the innarwebz.

I totally got lost in some medical hospital on campus for like an hour. I went through the botanical gardens out some random path exit and ended up in a caffeteria full of a bunch of doctors. I tried finding an exit to the hospital, but ended up doing circles down hella long monotonous hallways. It was pretty funny.

I am cool leaving it at that ;)

It has been fun, agreed! Bickering on the internet provides awesome ways to pass the time at work haha. See you in the fall!

@hijynx… word. which orientation are you attending?

@srjcstud… i give you 2 months living in LA until you never again say the word ‘hella’, except when making fun of people who say the word hella. :)

yeah man, hella will not fly in LA.

But it’s ok, i have a friend from Walnut Creek who once said “hella hecka tight.” We are no longer friends.

I am not attending orientation. It’s a waste of my time and money. I spent some time on the UCLA campus before and signing up for classes can be done without spending $125.

I think the last time I used the word hella was in '99.

Does anyone know if the public transportation around UCLA is as bad as people say?
Maybe it’s just my spoiled USC friend that is just too cool to ride the bus.

Any experiences??

pskate, as an LA native, i can assure you that we have the worst public transportation in the world. It will take you hours to get anywhere through P.T.

The worst is if you have to change buses. They are never on time so you miss one and then the other, and you will be 38* hours late on average.

*YMMV

…Oh man…

Okay. Follow up question then.

When google maps says travel time by car is 10 minutes (assume local roads only/around 2pm), how long does it REALLY take???

I’ve only been to LA at night, so I wonder how bad it is during the afternoon/traffic hour…

Geez, Despite living in Cali, LA is still definitely gonna be a culture shock for me. I can definitely see myself slipping a “hella” every now and then.

You from up north Supa? The city of LA is awesome, especially Westwood. The Valley is very boring.

Pskate, when they say LA traffic is bad, they aren’t kidding. It sometimes take me 45 minutes to go like 5 exits on the freeway, it’s ridiculous.

The 10 minutes will probably end up being 25-30 in traffic, maybe more. LA is just way too crowded.

^ no joke.

Yeah I drive to UCLA about 3 times a week (I play on the rugby team and always party with my friends there) I live in the south bay (so not that far…maybe 15miles at the most) and it takes me anywhere from 30 mins to 2 hours to get there! Not a fun drive…and the buses take even longer because the freeway doesnt have deicated bus lanes. Even the carpool is full in the afternoon/evening.

seriously, 405 is crazyyy. i drive from the valley to smc for a class once a week. One time, i dont even know what the hell happened, but i was stuck in traffic for 3 hours just to get to the 10 freeday. I was 2 hours late to class, ■■■. took me an hour and half just to get to the exit for ucla. my god, traffic fluctuates everytime … but i still love la lol

Anyways, the BEST advice is to learn the streets. Once you learn how to take side streets and backstreets to avoid the freeways it will save you a lot of trouble. Even when the 405 is packed I can get to UCLA in under 30 minutes from 10 miles away. There is some exception of course.

how!!! lol
