My Fear of Driving and Community College

My biggest fear is getting lost. I don’t have a knack for directions at all. I don’t get how people can get around like it’s nothing, all streets look the same when you drive.

ktsai91, I used to be like you, the thought of getting behind the wheel used to send me into panic attacks. I was in two accidents (one pretty bad) when I was 17, they happened within two weeks of each other and other people were driving. One, was we hit a pine tree going 40 mph head on and another we almost made a building into a drive through.

After these two accidents I refused to ever drive again because of the fear I felt. And still to this day I get mild panic attacks in the car when other people are driving. I now much rather be the driver and not the passenger.

I was kinda forced to get my license when I was 21 (turned out to be a good thing) but I was terrified at the thought of driving. I lived in a big city at the time and fought it tooth and nail. But I had an infant son and a husband that worked the night shift and it was hard for him to get up to take up to appointments and such in the morning.

I got my license the first time through and I have been loving driving ever since. Like you though I don’t like driving at night. Even with glasses now I have bad night vision that impaired more when on-coming traffic will not turn their high beams down.

The key for me is having the radio on, this really helps relax me when I am driving. I pay attention to my surroundings I pay attention to not just the car in front of me but also several cars ahead of me and cars coming up on the side roads.

Vodka, get a GPS for your car. I don’t have a hard time knowing what roads to turn down because I pay more attention to landmarks more than street names. Now my husband bought me a GPS for when I got o other towns and I love having it in the car.
