I already have my license, but the process to obtain it was so slow and drawn-out that I'm still not a very good driver. In fact, I haven't driven since I got my license about 2 months ago. I can't take the car to school, rehearsals, or many events now because my parents are separated and each need their own cars all the time. I'm only going to be living in the area for another 5 months or so, and then I'll hopefully be moving to a big city for college. In all probability I still won't have a car and will use public transportation. My mom is constantly pressuring me to practice driving with her but I don't see the point in it anymore, and all she does is stress me out. Does anyone have any advice/perspective/etc on the matter?

'Sokay if you don’t drive, as long as you live somewhere with good public transportation. But, although you might not be a good driver now, driving on your own is REALLY good practice, so if you keep it up, then you’ll become better.

Getting through college without driving is quite possible and usually more practical. I wouldn’t toss aside driving as a skill just yet. Once you learn how to do it, you won’t really forget… just drive every once in a while (summers, when you’re in college) so you are familiar enough after you’re out of school.

Honestly, if your going to a big city for college, you probably won’t need to drive too much. But it probably varies from school to school. try doing a little research into how many students use cars at the schools you are likely to attend. While if you don’t have access to a car, and won’t for several years, I agree driving is a bit pointless. Though if you can get a car, driving makes life so much nicer…in that you spend less time listening to you’re parents talk, and have a lot more freedom

Do you have your license or your permit?

If you have your license, then just drive around on your own on the weekends… even if you go to completely deserted streets.

I became a MUCH better driver once I started driving by myself without my parents, because I started thinking more about my driving and less at what my mother/father was telling that me that I was doing wrong. It just made it so much more stressful than it really should have been.

im taking drivers ed.
the first time, i drove into 2 snow banks and i almost hit a truck. trust me you should practice. you get WAY better with practice

I feel the same way… I’m scared of accidentally hitting a pedestrian and being charged with vehicular manslaughter.

It’s one of the few ways to accidentally commit a crime.

You drive much better alone, without screaming parents. So don’t be discouraged by your mom if you are.
