my friend has a new house..... help!! wealth & friends

Yep, most decent sized houses in my area cost around 800k-1.5mil. Nice town homes are like 500k…

Anyway this guy is probably thinking we’re the most unhelpful people ever lol.

@ SpeedyClaxton47… Not necessarily. I think my house was bought for cheap way back when and then the price increased over time to 1 mil. And I’m not rich, I’m just upper middle class.

Seconded. You’d be surprise how little you’d get in Manhattan on $600,000.

Somewhere in this thread somebody said the average income was like $65,000…= middle class. Families that live on $65,000 (aka Middle class families) can’t afford $600,000 houses. If you can afford a $600,000+ house, then you are above middle class.

Location doesn’t change what “class” you live in. It just changes your buying power. In Nebraska, 1.5 million will get you about any house you want. But in ritzy suburbs, 1.5 million doesn’t go along ways. BUT…(here’s the key): if you can afford to live in a nicer house ($600,000 for example, because that seems to be the magic number in this thread), it doesn’t matter what neighborhood you live in…you are still NOT middle class.

@ Cheerybroody - My grandparents live in a very nice golf-course neighborhood outside of AZ - I’ve seen my fair share of helpless stuck up snobs. Tell me…can you change the oil in your car? What does the dipstick do on a car?

You learn that in driver’s ed…

They tell you that in drivers ed? I must have been asleep or not paying attention. I guess I didn’t take drivers ed very seriously because I’ve been racing cars since I was 14. Also logged in about 100 hours of driving time for my school permit prior to drivers ed.

Lol okay. Considering I’m a girl I don’t see what this is going to prove. Can I change the oil? Possibly if I learned how to but I’m not taking the chance to mess up my car, so I’ll leave that to my dad / brothers / future husband. What does the dipstick do? It shows the oil level after you take it out, clean the stick off, dip it back in, and then take it out again.

Satisfied? Or are you going to ask me more car related questions that I might not know the answers to just to show I might be a rich snob?

I’m surprised you dignified those patronizing questions with a response.

How much a house costs all depends on location, end of story.

Yeah, we get that. Some cities are more expensive than others, but no matter where you live, if you have a $1.5 million house… you’re pulling in enough money to pay the mortgage.

Am I the only one who doesn’t get why the focus is still on Plattsburgh’s house?

Don’t hate on my parade.

Yeah, like I said it depends where you live. If we just went by state, since it’s easier on here, each state’s cost of living is different as well. Like a previous poster said, 1.5 million for a home is wealthy anywhere. As for middle, lower middle, and upper middle class etc… that fluctuates, although usually there are pretty defined income brackets for each region.

For example, I live in California, lower middle class. When my dad was considering a job in Texas we looked at homes. We could get a MUCH better home than ours for less than half our current home’s price. Many factors contribute to how much the net worth of your home is…

And even still.
Four pages of “You’re rich whether you like or not.” Nothing else to talk about? …Like the OPs prob?

I would probably just ignore him until the excitement wears down. That house seems like a big step up for his family, so he is probably ecstatic about it.

Then again, I would be disgusted if he was bragging about the size/cost of his house. That seems like an incredibly tasteless thing to do.

This is coming from someone who lives in a house that is less than 2000 square feet, so I’m not sure how a considerably more wealthy (then your friend) person should react.

well, I agree with WantsBrown, it has been crazy hijacked lolol hahahaha no problem though. I just dont think I need to know if 600,000 means wealthy, because i know its well off, just not wealthy. Again, i still dont know how to solve this dilemma. Its been a few weeks now and hes still being a dche bag about it, no matter how much Im trying to change the subject.

we dont know the Trumps that well, just who they are. seen him with his son eric before.family friends with bechtel and gould though, nice guys.

a worth of 1 bil is upthere, no? I just wish he (grandad) made it an IPO haha, it’ll probably double, what do you think soon-to-be CC financial analysts? lol

Now the **** is more complicated, he found out who my grandfather is  hehe my best friend

@the poster who wanted to make oil worthless: No, the family wealth isnt solely on oil. Its mostly steel, media, real estate, and petrochemicals (you should know what they are by grade 11/12 !!), besides the agency. Go ahead and take oil down lol

NO, we dont ride camels, horses or live in TENTS. Nor do we drive bugattis either, although I think we should be :D!!! maybe donate one to a lucky CC member :D

Hey buhhhh-dee.
