My friend’s on the waitlist for Drexel University and she’s riding on getting admitted here and kind of ignored her only other option college. So that means she has to pay alot of money and take 45 min public transportation to go to that school. Since she’s limited in her options, she has to go to that college if she doesnt get admitted to Drexel. She heard that other people heard back from their waitlist but she still didnt get a reply and she always contacts Drexel, searching for an answer. She’s definitely hearing back before august 1 but what are the odds of her being admitted? I think she’s going in for bio.
On the one hand, she may have a good chance of being accepted because sometimes colleges deny people first and then accept. On the other hand, the number of available seats are getting lower and it is getting progressively more challenging for her name to take one of those seats.
Normally a lot of people don’t get off waitlists because universities are usually pretty good at predicting how many accepted students will actually enroll. I’d never count on getting off a waitlist.
She should call drexel and let them know she’s still interested. A lot of colleges assume that WL’d kids have “moved on” by now.
@gdlt234 Seriously??? But other people got waitlist replies from Drexel and I got a reply from Dickinson. My friend told me she’s gonna get a reply before August 1, idk how she knows that but i’ll ask. And @GMTplus7 she bothered Drexel ALOT, trust me.
Yes, waitlist acceptances are usually pretty rare, although I’m not sure about admission patterns of the schools you mentioned. However, take Babson college as an example. A couple of years ago they put around 1,400 students on their waitlist and accepted about 10 of them.
Okay, thanks. Does this mean that Drexel will definitely get back to her on her waitlist status or they won’t bother to tell her?
Unfortunately Drexel’s Common Data Set does not say how many students are accepted off the wait list.
If she got in, could she afford it?
At this point, they know who has accepted…they are probably seeing which students decide not to attend over the summer before they would add anyone. If she hasn’t expressed interest again over the summer, she should.
For a school that admits only ~2200 and enroll less than 1000 freshmen each year, you don’t expect much admission from the waitlist. She may call the school to express continue interest, but also do not put much hope on it at all.
Thanks all!!
