My half-asian friend...downside to mixing?

^^ That happened to me and my mom. I was fluent in French and some French guys were talking about me and I finally answered them. They shut up. My mom grew up in Spain but is white and she is fluent, she's very gorgeous and loves Mexican food so when we go and the guys talk about her behind her back or even to her face she always gives 'em a good lashing =].

^same happens to me in china.
im hapa and i think i understand what this sara is going through. recently ive gone through a racial identity crisis that included reading up on my roots, you know, reading kip fulbeck and all that "ethnicly ambiguous generation" literature. I was called a halfbreed growing up so for a while i wouldnt admit to being mixed, but action is growing in both asian and hapa comunities as people vocalize and with that a distinctive culture, not a stereyotype generalization or anomaly, is being created. please try to encourage your friend to continue her work in her club. she will never be a white girl and that is a wonderful thing. this goes beyond being the exotic one or even the funny looking one.

what's with the hatred my roman pig eye

i agree roman pig eye- your mom is very gorgeous

My goddess, you really are psycho.

"my goddess, you really are psycho"- roman pig eye
lol- what an idiot

there seems to be a lot of narrow-minded, stereotypical views about asians on this thread.

Most hapas look more Asian than White, so it's not really true. Your friend is just an exception. Asian/White mixes tend to think of themselves as more Asian than White most of the time.

As for the whole hapa girls marrying white guys...yeah pretty true. My family is evidence of this. I bet all the female mixes in my family will marry white guys but that's because of their environment. I don't think race is that big of an issue to the point where everything should be about a reaction against social oppressions. People should stop categorizing everyone into race.

if youre not going to caterorgize people into race you shouldn't do it with generalizations either.

Yeah, what blairt said. I honestly didn't think there were hate crimes against Asians now. It'd be like having hate crimes against Slavic people or something...

-The Slavic Coot66

Everyone generalizes over something; my point is I don't get why everything is deduced to race, especially where I am studying now. It seems very divided. I'm mixed and I don't obsess over race. It's not that big of a deal.

woo. since the topic of race crimes against asians came up, i saw this today and immediatly thought of this thread!

Asian Slurs End Shock Jock's Job on CBS

Asian Slurs End Shock Jocks' Show on CBS
五月 12, 2:39 下午 EST

One month after CBS Radio fired radio host Don Imus, it has permanently pulled the plug on a pair of suspended New York shock jocks for a prank phone call rife with offensive Asian stereotypes.

"The Dog House with JV and Elvis," hosted by Jeff Vandergrift and Dan Lay, "will no longer be broadcast," CBS Radio spokeswoman Karen Mateo said Saturday.

The cancellation of the show on WFNY-FM, nearly three weeks after the hosts were suspended, was another indication of the increased scrutiny on radio hosts and the heightened management sensitivity to complaints in the wake of the Imus firing.

CBS Radio dismissed Imus in April for his racist and sexist remarks about the Rutgers women's basketball team.

Vandergrift and Lay broadcast a call to a Chinese restaurant in which the caller, in an exaggerated accent, placed an order for "shrimp flied lice," claimed he was a student of kung fu, and compared menu items to employees' body parts.

The initial airing of the call went unnoticed, but a rebroadcast after Imus's firing prompted an outcry from Asian-American groups. Vandergrift and Lay were initially suspended without pay, but Asian-Americans quickly demanded the same penalty applied to the much higher-profile Imus.

"This is a victory not only for the Asian-American community, but for all communities who find themselves constant targets of racist and sexist programming," said Jeanette Wang, an executive with the Organization of Chinese Americans.

Mateo would not comment on the status of the DJs' contracts or whether they were still on the CBS payroll.
Imus plans a $120 million breach of contract suit against CBS Radio.

Glad to see Asian-Americans standing up for themselves!! :)

most mixed asians are good looking

now THAT is a fact. :)

^^ agreed. =]. Mixed or not, most Asains are HOT.

Would that be considered stereotypical?

yeah but who cares, we're hot cause we're fly. holla!

mixed asians either look hot or look weird (50/50). girls usually look better than guys by a mile

Guess I look weird then.

or you look hot!

No./*******/
