What do you guys really think of Loomis Chaffee? I have a friend that’s tryiing to choose between it and Deerfield, Hotchkiss and Taft.
I think she’ll trust your judgment. :)

Investigate: Madeira, Miss Porter’s

As you need FA, I suggest you widen your search beyond New England. A friend advised some time ago, “the further you go, the better your chances.” You should look for schools at which you are not only highly ranked in the applicant pool, but to which you offer something distinctive.

but i <3 new england! lol but seriously, I would have really have no way of getting far off the east coast. money is tight.

I’ve investigated Porter’s and somewhat Madeira before. My mom doesn’t like P and Madeira doesn’t interest me.

Off that list (the 2nd one): 1) MX 2)Taft

So I’m actually a girl… but yeah why don’t you like SM?

Yeah west campus seems odd at first but my freshman year I LOVED it. The entire freshmen class lives in the same area and you reaaally bond as a class. That’s not to say that if you come in as a new sophomore or junior you won’t bond with your class though.

We had people who came in as juniors who I for the longest time my senior year thought that they came in with us as freshmen…

But back to my original question, why didn’t you like SM?

i like it, it just doesn’t seem very ‘me’ though. Its cool though, ill think abt it. i find it a little disconcerting that girls v. soccer won like… 3 games though.

YOU’RE A GIRL?!?!? haha. Sorry. Hard to tell online.

Yup. I am a girl.

And that’s understandable. However, if you look at it in a different light, you could for sure probably make the team and maybe make serious contributions to the team. I had a friend who did that and she’s playing soccer in college, not D1, but she’s playing. Are you a really competitive soccer player? Like are you planning on going to college to play D1 soccer?

If not then I don’t think you should automatically cancel out a school and think that the school isn’t good JUST because they don’t have a good soccer team. If you are desperately trying to play D1 soccer in college, then fine be as picky as you want haha.

Rad-in-Plaid96, I love New England too! However, realize that you may find that a better FA offer from a more distant boarding school may mean that it would be more affordable. You should sit down and compare overall costs. If you plan ahead, and buy your tickets way ahead of time, you might find travel costs very reasonable. For a trip to Chicago recently, a cousin found round-trip tickets for something like $99 per person. You’d need to be disciplined enough to plan everything in advance, but it could be worth investigating.

You’d be applying to enter as a sophomore, so presumably you will be more mature upon entering school.

If I take out the schools outside of New England, we’re left with:

EMMA WILLARD
Governor’s
NMH
Middlesex
Taft

Hmmm… what about Miss Hall’s? or Ethel Walker? If you need serious FA, it’s as if you need to win two lotteries, admission and FA, which makes the already competitive process even more competitive.

Westminster School, in Simsbury, CT? They have Davis Scholarships (as do Andover, Lawrenceville, Taft & Emma Willard.)

For St. Mark’s, West Campus isn’t that far away from campus. The map makes it look as if it’s a great distance, but it’s close. During the school day, all the classes are in the connected school building, so the classrooms are closer to each other than they are at some other schools.

Starbucks is farther away from the main campus than West Campus, but no one seems to complain about walking to Starbucks.

I don’t mean STRICTLY New England, I should broaden that area to North East to DC/VA/MD area.(I wouldn’t be able to make those areas for a visit though, just school)

I looked at Miss Hall’s it’s a bit too tiny for my liking, but its v.v. nice. I’m not really too into the girl’s school thing tho. Ethel Walker… :/

@smski: I’m not REALLY competitive at soccer that record is just… [no words but not in a bad way, im just not…wordy at the mo’] I would be looking into doing either soccer or xc for a fall sport though.

What school/s have a low amount of students from NH?

Cate? Thacher? Hawai’i Prep? George School? Westtown?

I don’t think my parents will let me apply to somewhere in cali or HI. Ill look at westtown.

why not george?

I didn’t see the george school when I first looked at the schools you suggested.

What is a quaker? Is the george school religious?

Edit: NVM I don’t like the sports they offer so no thanks.

The people at Hawaii Prep are sooooo freaking nice. Plus, the application is free.
I’m glad I applied there!

both george and westtown are quaker. what abt the sports?

I wanted to do crew.

…cult. lol its ok if you like that though, nothing wrong with it ;)

so…what is a quaker? (Sorry for ignorance)
