My Little Predicament

It is great that you're looking for other funding, and it is possible that local scholarships and a part time job would cover some of your expenses. But if mom and dad will pay the difference, I think that is better than taking out loans and waiting for parents to pay for med school. You don't know what will happen in four years.

Since you are in OHio, and you have a 36 on the ACT and a 4.0 unweighted, you will probably get an Ohio Academic scholarship of $2300? (not exactly sure of the amount) per year for four years to use at an Ohio college from the Ohio Board of Regents. It is based on a formula that takes into account equally the gpa and ACT score, and your guidance counselor will automatically file for it. There is at least one awarded per Ohio high school. With your stats, even if another student at your school has a 36 and a 4.0, you should go into the pool for the "additional" scholarships. Talk to your guidance counselor about it. You are probably in pretty good shape for a Byrd scholarship, a federal $1500 per year award that is also based on test scores and gpa.

i completely agree with ohiomomma........u should definetely get that award........or any other award...........

Contact the Army ROTC Dept Head.

He/she can get you a 4yr on Campus scholarship that covers full tuition and fees, a stipend of 300-500 a month, and $1200 for books a year.
The school may also give free room and board or some other deal with the Army Scholarship. The current scholarship high school application deadline is 10 Jan 08 but again they can get more on campus. Good Luck

The Army will also pay from Med school after ROTC. Stipend goes up to 1300 plus a month.
