My loans got cancelled, help!

School started August 20th and I still hadn't received my refund check from financial aid. I called the office today and it turns out that my Stafford Sub and Unsub loans were canceled because the loan entrance counseling was not completed by Sept. 6th. I now owe $700 to the school and am short for my rent... I have a work study job to make up for not having rent money, but don't know how I'd pay the school back.

Although I remember completing the loan counseling over the summer, my school has no record of it. They said that they sent out emails to all those who didn't do the counseling about 2 weeks ago, but I never received that email. I'm not sure if this is a mistake on my part or if it's an error of the Financial Aid office. I'm really hoping that this can be fixed.

Another thing I noticed was that the financial aid website says we have up to 30 days after the start of classes to do the loan requirements. Thirty days haven't passed, so would it be possible to redo the loan counseling and get my loans back, if I am at fault for all this? Or can I not do anything about the loans since they have already been canceled?

Thank you for your help.

Contact your finaid office…they are the best ones to answer these questions. Did you print out a copy of your loan “stuff” or save it to your computer? If so, take a copy with you to the finaid office.(If not…next time, save or print copies). Do you know where you submitted your loan “stuff”? If so, there should be a phone number help line you can call.

it’s is easy to reinstate the loan, but you will need to sign MASTER PROMISSORY NOTE and complete modalities incorporating such facta as the student entrance loan counseling.
