My (ongoing) College Admissions Story

You are BAD!

OFFICIALLY A SEAHAWK LINK!!! Absolutely blessed and privileged to be able to lead the next class of incoming freshmen hopefully love this school as much as me. WINGS UP!!!

Congratulations !!!

@MYOS1634 thanks so much!! :smiley:

Now , on to finals!
Apply to all the scholarships for current students that you can. Good grades and college involvement should result in something :). Hunt them down, ask everywhere

I just found this thread (I am a high school sophomore), and it is so much fun to read. Keep doing well in college!

Thanks so much @apple1893!!

@LBad96 I noticed that you play club soccer. I hope to do that at the D3 level or club level when I go to college.

@apple1893 I play intramural, actually! Haha. But that’s good, definitely go for that! Keep working and striving to reach that level!

One year ago today, I committed to attend the best school in the world. As my freshman year is wrapping up amidst the stress of finals and my near-endless social anxiety battle, I am highly adamant that I could not have picked a better place for me to grow. In my first year at UNCW, I’ve done very well academically, created my own intramural soccer team and become a part of the Black Student Union and College Democrats, in addition to being the biggest fan of both the soccer and basketball teams. I still have more up my sleeve for year 2, such as being a Seahawk Link for the incoming freshmen, writing for The Odyssey, and (hopefully) joining a fraternity. Deciding to come to North Carolina all the way from New Jersey has made me become a much better and stronger person than I would have grown to be had I stayed closer to home. I’m in love with this campus and this school more and more each day, and I truly feel like I was destined to be at this great, well-respected university. I’m very ecstatic and blessed to say that it was a match made in heaven. I wouldn’t want to experience the highs and lows, ups and downs of college at any other school. As good as freshman year was, I feel that I’m primed to have an even better sophomore year.

WINGS UP!!!

Congratulations on a good freshman year and good luck on your finals

@MYOS1634 thank you so much!!

Seahawk Journal - Friday the 13th of May, 2016 (end of freshman year): My arrival back in New Jersey last Saturday morning officially marked the end of my freshman year of college. It feels like it was only yesterday when I moved into Cornerstone Hall for the first time, and yet last Friday evening I checked out for the last time. I can only hope that this is the fastest college will go.

In my first year at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, I’ve made friends with incredible people, ate some excellently dank food (s/o to Cookout, Bojangles, Cracker Barrel, and deer meat at Thanksgiving), attended my first-ever live music concert (T-Pain), enjoyed Wrightsville Beach, explored an intriguing new state, and grown in indescribable ways academically and socially. I’ve taken very challenging and engaging courses. I’ve seen my schoolmates and friends qualify for the NCAA tournament. I’ve gone out to see the country. I’ve begun to find myself and come to terms with who I am as a person.

I’ve made so many amazing friends down here that it’s impossible to count them all. I count myself truly blessed to have met a plethora of people from across the country and around the globe to call my associates here at this great university. I am so thankful for all of them and I love them all so dearly. It’s hard to be away from them all for the next three months. I’m so blessed to have met all of them and I have become a better person through doing so. They’ve all had a profound impact on my life and my perspective.

My grades, however small, did take a dip in my second semester. Good news is that my worst grade was a B-. Bad news was that I was unable to get anything higher than a B+. Two B+s (French 101 and PE), two Bs (Psych 105 and Stats) and one B- (Microeconomics) is good enough for a 3.05 on the semester, essentially straight Bs. Overall, my GPA now stands at a 3.2. Not bad for a freshman, but I am disappointed in myself that I couldn’t raise my grades. However, considering the fact that my bike was stolen in January, I realized that not everyone at my school is genuine, and my struggle with social anxiety returned to the forefront of my life (so much that I had to make a huge FB post coming out about it), I’d say that Spring 2016 was definitely more difficult than Fall 2015.

While I am relieved to be home with my family again after a stressful spring semester, I will say that I have so much more up my sleeve for sophomore year. Chief among my plans: being a Seahawk Link for the incoming freshmen and helping them potentially become Dub Nation legends; joining a fraternity; and most importantly, no longer being a teenager.

My first year at UNCW was the best year of my life. But the next three years will only be even better. I’m blessed to say that God has planted me to bloom at the greatest school in the world. And I’m even more blessed to call it my second home.

WINGS UP!!!

Congratulations on the good grades - it’s much harder to get a B in college than in high school, and your college GPA is better than your high school GPA!
Glad to hear you’re doing so great socially and have grown so much.
Thanks for the update.
Are a great time with your family… And finally you may be able to enjoy NJ now that you’re only there for vacations.
Any summer plan?

The pride of Jersey. Well done

@MYOS1634 Thanks so much!! I really had to stretch for Econ and Stats! I do think I’m starting to warm up to New Jersey now that I don’t live in the state anymore. Besides, I always love watching my favorite sports teams, something I wasn’t really able to do this school year (although I did cheer for the Panthers  ). As for the summer, I’m planning on taking accounting 201 at my local CC, as that class is HELL at UNCW. I’m also planning on working.

@ClarinetDad16 thanks so much, that means a lot!!

After a few weeks home, how is it going?
Not too hard to go back, or fun and comfortable (finally)?
How’s Accounting at the CC?

Thanks for the update. It shows that you are considerate and appreciate the support. All the best to you as you work this summer and dive into the class.

@MYOS1634 hey!! Everything is fine. It’s comfortable, a lot more enjoyable/bearable than it was when I was about to leave lol. The CC Accounting class doesn’t start for a couple more days, I don’t think. And I am happy to say that I’m now, finally, a licensed driver!! Two and half years late is better than never, I suppose!

@momcinco you’re very welcome, and thank you for the compliments and well-wishes!

Ey congrats on the driver’s license :)
