Hello.

So, my parents refuse to put their information on FAFSA, under parent demographics section.
Will this hurt my chances? And, this makes things super difficult for me to figure out. My FAFSA was not processed. It says: Action Required: Call your schools financial aid office and tell them the documentation, or explain your situation.

My situation is that my parents are being stubborn and won't let me include their information.

Help? Are my parents hurting my chances? :(

I don’t believe they are hurting your chances significantly as of now, however, it is imperative that they fill out the FAFSA. Try explaining to them that the FAFSA is not something to be ashamed of, and many people fill it out every year, regardless of income. If you are not able to tell your parents this, try speaking with a school counselor and have them explain the FAFSA process to your parents. Good luck and hope everything works out!

I don’t think won’t hurt your chances of admission. However it will mean no eligibility for financial aid.

Unless they are willing to fund your education without financial aid, or you receive a large enough merit scholarship, their refusal to do FAFSA will prevent you from being able to afford attending college.

See if you qualify for any of the automatic full ride schools that are still accepting applications:

Are you saying they will fill in all the financial information but they will not fill in the Parent Demographic section, which I think is section 7? I think that is just about marital status and household size? Do you have any idea why this is a problem? You can call the college yourself and discuss it.

Could they be worried you’ll find out they’re not married, for instance? Have they filled everything out except demographics, or do they refuse to fill out FAFSA?
If they don’t fill out FAFSA, they’ll have to fund the full cost of your education themselves since you won’t be eligible for financial aid.

Yeah you won’t be able to get any aid if they can’t fill it out. Find out why exactly they don’t want to and tell them th e consequences if they aren’t able to.

Nevermind everyone, please disregard. I submitted my FAFSA including their information. They were worried about putting down their SSNs.

Thanks for letting us know that the situation is resolved!

Good luck with everything!

Thanks for letting us know :)

How can you apply for federal FA without SSN’s?

My understanding is all Cal States require a renewed FAFSA each year to sign up for classes. I’d be surprised if many other campuses didn’t do the same.
