My Parents Won't Pay for My College Education

Just read about a loophole being exploited by some parents in Illinois (ProPublica.org) who can very much afford to pay for college but just don’t want to by turning over guardianship of their almost 18-year-olds to to other family members or friends in order for the student to be able to declare financial independence to quality for tuition aid and scholarships.
