My plan for Sat. Nov SAT

so today im just going to review all i have done in the SAT practice tests. im still lagging in the CR, so im taking a bunch of CR tests today (and maybe some in the morning tomorrow) after school im just going to get all the guides, Xiggi's, Silverturtles, and how to get 800 and all and re-read them picking up tips and grammar techniques.

thats my plan (i have already done practice tests so :P)

tell me if this is a good idea or not :)
thanks

What’s your score now? After a certain point, it’s safe to assume that you know how to study best for yourself. If it’s your first time, then yeah, though you could use vocab for CR too, lol.

gooood plan, i think im going to do what you’re doing… i really need to improve my cr because at one point my score was as low as 680. apparently colleges that i want to apply to look at the writing/cr and math scores separately so i really have to improve my cr. how i score on the writing part really depends on luck i think…last year i got around 720 and 760, and this year i got around 780. math is no problem at all but gaah i really need to work on those cr/writing techniques

My plan is…

For math: I’m not going to study for it, but when it comes to the test I guess I’ll have to be more careful not to make any stupid mistakes. Hopefully I will get an 800, as I got a 760 last time.

For writing: Naturally, I’m pretty good at the MC - I usually get 2-3 wrong (on the past couple practice tests) but I’m sure if I concentrate I can take care of this section. We’ll see. As for the essay, my plan is to write A LOT. I only practiced one essay and I submitted it to the automatic score system and got a 12, because I filled up all 2 pages. (I got an 8 on my last SAT essay - 1 1/4 pages filled up)

For CR: Naturally, it’s my Achilles’ heel. I got a 630 on the real thing but I’ve been getting from 610-740 on practice ones. Hopefully if I concentrate and don’t make “inferences” I’ll do better. Just too bad English is my second language but I’m still aiming for 800. :D

So that’s my plan! I think a pragmatic attitude along with some vocab review and sleep (thank God it’s the beginning of term 2; I have little hw) will be my way to success.

(BTW, I’m honestly not trying to be supercilious here; consider it more of a self-exhortation!)

last time i took the College board practice test i got about a 2100 (which is my goal), and these took the low end scores too!
but once again my CR was the lowest haha

but i have just reviewed all of my mistakes and “redone” my answers ,etc. like i would go to problem so and so, read the passage if there is and answer it myself. if i got the answer right i would see that the other options were wrong because so and so. if it was vocabulary, i would just write it down. im planning to go over all the vocab questions tomorrow and see how i do and look up those i have no idea about.

i went over all these problems and was like “am i that stupid” cuz these were really dumb mistakes that was so obvious, yet i did not take my time haha…

spatel23, story of my effing life.

LovexLight
i agree it does feel horrible, i hate ittttt so muchh. the funny thing is that if i actually spent the time (i had like 2-3 mins left on each writing section of the SAT practice) and if i went over it properly again to check mistakes, i wouldve gotten a perfect frickin score. i was so madddddddd

Tonight

  1. Finish Practice Test #3 (and possibly 4)
  2. Skim through Gruber’s
  3. Go over Vocab Flashcards
(With studying for my Spanish Exam tomorrow and doing my AP lit somewhere in there…)

Tomorrow (during school)

  1. Practice test 4 (or 5)
  2. Finish Silverturtle’s Guide (I wish he focused more on math but the writing is very interesting
  3. Maybe make more CR flashcards if I finish going over Gruber’s tonight (if not, Gruber’s)

After School:

  1. Take #6, #7, #8 practice tests at least (more if possible…wanted to get through all ten)
  2. Sleep (haven’t slept more than 3 hours in a single night in over a week…darn Acadec Qualifiers)

Haha sorry this is so detailed - I was trying to figure it out myself

Weakness: Math…averaging around 700 on practice tests

Writing is good - 800 on last couple of practice tests

CR is alright - stupid mistakes normally take me down to a 760

Goal: 2300 (make 2280 on last practice test so almost there…but not quite)

First time taking SATs

^ Bad idea.

Taking 4 practice test the day before the SAT is stupid. You’re not going to retain any information, and furthermore, you’re going to burn out.

You’re running a marathon before you do a triathlon.

If you already made 2280 on your practice test, then you’re fine.

so i just took the CR section of the SAT (thats my weakness) and i was wondering if it is dumb to do them (over long intervals) ie. morning do one section, after school another section and at 5:00 another section… then just chill and all. (and read silverturtle’s stuff)

the reason is because i have been floating in between the 640-700 range and im not sure where i am. math is a 680-700, and writing is around a 680- 800 {800 if i dont make stupid mistakes and get 12 on essay)

my main problem is the CR, but does anyone have tips for me about the CR section. i have raised the score form a 560 to this 640, but im just ugh…

^To Yellowdaisies, do NOT take 3 practices tests in one day and the day before the test. At best, do 3-4 sections to make sure your timings on, your focused, and so on.

YellowDaisies
how is that possible. its like 3.5 hours for each test. so after school would be about 9-11 hours? how?

so i just finished two CR sections and i have a 39.25 so far (which is in the low 530’s to high 590s)
so i was wondering (after i take the final CR section-- hoping to get a 660+) if its okay to do a little test here and there.
like i want to do little sections in CR to improve on it. not do all of them at once, but do a section at 3, then a another at 4:30, and another at 6, and another at 730 and so on…not too much stressful, just to see how i do my plan is to go to sleep at 9:30 and wake up at 6:30

is this stupid or is it okay (because im taking long breaks in between to relax my mind and all.

spatel23, that schedule seems fine. Taking a few sections of CR to maintain your timing and ability is fine as long as you’re not cramming in 3-4 full tests (which you’re not). Good luck on the SAT tomorrow!

So I took a practice test today, and I got 800 M, 800 W, and 700 CR!
I HATE CR!

700 for CR is still decent. I was stuck at the 700 barrier for quite a while before my strategies from my 800 CR guide really clicked in for me. You should do fine tomorrow, don’t worry too much about it.

Aw thanks Apoc314!
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to finish the SAT essay in time?

I practiced the essay quite a bit. I would quickly read the prompt and understand it completely. Then I would choose a side and quickly think of 2-3 examples and start writing within a minute. I would quickly write my thesis and examples in my introduction, then I would start my topic sentence for the first body paragraph and relate it to my thesis. The major problem here is just to keep on writing. I tried to keep background information out of my examples and just state the parts relevant to my thesis. For example, if I was using World War II as one of my (rather trite) examples, I would talk specifically about one of the parts of it that supported my thesis. I also liked to use a short “counterargument.” This only works for some prompts such as if it asks if deception is justified or not. I would show how my example supported my thesis (let’s suppose it supports deception being justified) and then I would talk about what would have happened had deception not been used (which would have had to be a worse circumstance in order to support my thesis) and then I continue to my next body paragraphs. For the conclusion, don’t spend too much time being creative. The main part is summarizing your points and your thesis and perhaps concluding with a thought-provoking sentence only if you have time. Using this method I usually finish with a couple minutes to spare to check for grammatical mistakes.

Apoc314,

What 800 cr guide? Where can I get one?

@ APtester, Spatel, RADtomatoh…haha sorry guys, I should have been more clear. My study plans are usually a bit too ambitious to be plausible, but I did follow it pretty well and ended up completing 2 practice tests + the math sections on a third and was glad I did - still made it in bed by 9:30 :-D.
