My school doesn’t offer AP until junior year, how many should I take?

So at my school, we’re not allowed to take AP classes until junior year, so I would obviously be taking less AP classes throughout the course of my High School career than students at other schools. If this is the case, and I can only take AP classes for two years, how many should I take each year? How many is too much?

It kind of depends on your major/career goals. Some are more “equal” than others in the eyes of colleges, too. I’d take 3 in subjects that you are really interested in and good at, no more.

I am interested in the computer science / computer engineering fields. If that’s the case, would 3 still be an acceptable amount?

I’d say three is acceptable, but what are they? Just be careful not to stress yourself out because this will be the first time you’re taking AP courses.

Since I’m currently a freshman, I’d say I have a decent amount of time to think about this but I’d say I’m thinking of taking AP World History or US History, AP Studio Art, and AP Biology my junior year. My senior year, I plan on taking AP CompSci, AP Calc, AP Physics, and possibly AP English.

  1. keep in mind that colleges evaluate you in the context of your school. Your guidance counselor sends a school profile that you state that only juniors and above can take AP classes.

  2. What classes are you taking freshman sophomore year? honors? What are your grades?

  3. For science, if you took earth science and biology (non honors), then I would say just take regular chemistry. If you took Honors Bio and Honors Chem, then take AP Physics this year and AP Chem next year.

For Math: if you are taking pre-calc next year, then take AP Calc AB senior year.

For english: I would probably take Honors English but if you are good at English take AP Lang or Lit.

For history…are you taking honors history? If you are at the tippy top of your class take AP USH but if you are more STEM based you don’t have to.

For electives, AP Economics and AP Psych are good ones that are not too difficult.

2). Currently I’m a freshman, and I am taking all Honors courses in Algebra I, Geometry, Biology, English I, World History II, and additionally Italian. Next year, I’d be taking all Honors courses in Algebra II, Chemistry, English II, and US History, additionally Italian II. I currently have a 4.0 GPA with no grade lower than a 97.
3). Yup, I’ll be completing both Honors Bio and Honors Chem so I’m definitely looking forward to taking AP Physics for sure. I haven’t decided whether to take AP Chem or Bio though.

As for Math, I definitely want to take AP Calc AB.

English wise, I am great at English so my only concern would be that I want to focus on Math/Science APs so i wouldn’t know where I could place English, then again 4 years of English is a graduation requirement.

As stated I am in Honors History and I am in the top of my class but again, I am trying to shoot for STEM related APs so I’ll see how that goes.

Next year take Pre-calc and then AP Calc Ab.
Take AP Physics 1 next year and then AP Chem or AP Bio. f you want to be an engineer take AP CHem. If you are interested in pre-med, take AP Bio or AP Chem.
