"My senior grades have dropped, should I email admissions?" and other senior panics...

I have seen many posts from worried seniors about experiencing grade drops at this time of year. Their first two quarters/ first semester grades will be sent to AOs at the colleges they have applied to, and they are concerned because they got an A- instead of an A, or worse. Some kids have experienced family situations, some seem to have maybe slacked a bit, or there is another reason.

When is an email to admissions about current senior grades in order? Maybe some of those students can have a look at this post before panicking. Any seasoned experts out there who can shed some light? My thought is that the first thing to do should be emailing/meeting with the guidance counselor at school.

I know this won’t necessarily answer the question, but you should most definitely contact your counselor before referring to these forums. Your counselor will know your situation better, and not be just some random person on the internet. I think the issue comes when they cannot talk to a guidance counselor for whatever reason.
