So i wrote my essay, I was happy with it, felt like I said all I wanted to say. Then I paste it into the box on the common app and I only used 3000 out of 5000 characters. Does this look bad? Should I go back and make my essay longer?

My essays were also well below the character limits, but I sent them in anyway. I had someone read them over and she agreed that I had included everything I needed to and that I couldn’t expand anymore without making it all really clunky. If you’re happy with your essay, have someone else read it over and get a second opinion. If it’s good enough than I doubt that it would matter that it’s on the shorter side. Good luck! :)

Good to hear, thanks :)

I think it’s probably a little refreshing to read a shorter, more concise essay. I remember I read a book written by a neurosurgeon who said that a professor told her that her personal essay for med school was the best he’d ever read and it was far below the word limit.

at least you have your essay done haha
