Narrowing down the choices

My top is Syracuse, who I hear back from (hopefully) next Friday. In the case that I don't get in, I need to narrow down my choices. I don't qualify for much financial need (37k EFC w/ ~100k total yearly income, lol?) From New York, so the two SUNYs would be for in-state tuition price. Also, half the tuition at whatever school I attend will be paid for as a benefit of my Dad's employment to Columbia University, regardless of amount. Major is Marketing (Business) looking to double major or minor in Psychology. I plan on deferring my acceptance to go on a gap year study abroad program on which I will attain 30 credits. I will have 10 credits from APs/College Courses in HS.

I've been accepted to the following schools so far, and need help narrowing down the choices. Ultimately I'm looking for a school with a good undergrad business program, potential for good internships/things to do after college, as I'm hoping to really apply myself during college with the hopes of getting into a prestigious graduate school for my MBA. Student life/sports would be a plus.

[brief thoughts from myself on the school as well]

UAlbany - Would be cheap to attend, I've heard they have a good business school, but a lot of what I've heard is that the student body is very trashy/undesirable and it's generally unsafe.

UBuffalo - Also cheap to attend, I've heard mixed reviews, though I've heard they have a good business program as well. Don't know much about the school.

Drexel - Expensive as hell, gave such little scholarship that there will be $55000~ or so that will have to come from pocket (excluding Columbia benefit). Not quite sure they have a good business program. Also require deferrals to be applied to and take 0 credits from outside of the school. Pros? In Philly, a 'thriving city'. Probably won't attend unless there's some major convincing factor.

Temple - Tuition is pretty much payed for in scholarship, leaving Room & Board left to cover. Not sure about how they are with credits/deferring (I believe they defer). Being in Philly is a plus (I think?). Do they have a good business school? Originally I was concerned about Temple because I've heard bad things about surrounding neighborhoods, though now that I look further into college a lot of the schools I applied to seem to be near or in bad neighborhoods of some sort, I guess it's like that wherever you go.

Rutgers - I wasn't admitted into their business school, but I was into their Psychology program. Essentially if I were to go here I would have to transfer into the business school, which isn't guaranteed. Gave $5.5k/year in aid, meh.

Hofstra - Dad think I'm too good of a student to go here. They gave a pretty generous scholarship.

Adelphi - Barely on my radar, uber safety school.

--

Comments on any of the schools/their business programs/internships etc. Would be greatly appreciated... thanks!

First I guess you have to wait and see what happens with Syracuse. But I’d start off by eliminating the schools that don’t work for you – I’d take out Rutgers (if you didn’t get into the b-school now it would be a mistake to assume you can transfer in later) as well as Hofstra and Adelphi. And I don’t think Drexel is worth all the extra money. So if Syracuse doesn’t work, you are left with Albany, Buffalo and Temple. (My D has two friends who are very happy at Buffalo.) If you are left with those schools, I think it would be worth your while to visit one more time maybe for accepted students day – you will look at the schools differently now that you have been accepted. Ask specific questions about the business program, internships etc…talk to students…try to eat in the cafeteria…and see where you feel most comfortable.

Thanks for the response  Shame Temple & Buffalo’s accepted student days are both on March 23rd.

Did you apply to Binghamton? Out of the SUNY schools it has the most reputable business program, with Buffalo as a strong second. I know Temple has a strong international business program but I’m unsure of the school of business as a whole. I can’t comment on Syracuse because I’m not familiar with the program. I’d wait to hear from them and see how much aid they give you. However, if it came down to expenses and quality of program I’d say to put Buffalo before Albany due to the program itself as well as the atmosphere/quality of life. I would cross of Adelphi, Hofstra, Rutgers, Drexel, and Albany off the bat considering they are inferior business programs or you didn’t get accepted directly to the business program.

Thanks again for the response. No, I didn’t apply to Bing. I don’t like the campus/surrounding town. I’ve visited a ton because two of my cousins graduated (one is now a Chinese teacher there) so I’ve roomed in their houses off campus, sat through classes, etc. and simply don’t like the school all that much. Is their business program really all that much better than Buffalo’s?
