OK, we have been on 6 visits (Loomis, AOF, GDA, Andover, SPS and Exeter)
and my son has only knocked AOF off the list. We have 5 more visits scheduled and an Open House. His favorite 2 schools are GDA and Exeter foloowed closely by SPS...
They were sooo very different and yet he really liked those differences.
I thought that we would see a pattern to his preferences, but he seems to find the "great" things about each school.

We are suppose to visit NMH, Hotchkiss, Choate and Deerfield in the next few weeks. Westminster is scheduled for Jan. because missing half days was starting to hurt him academically. We are also suppose to attend an Open House at St. George's.

What is a reasonable amount of schools to apply to...
Any ideas on which schools to consider cutting? Westy and St George's are a little easier to get into than most of his other choices. I'm not even sure why St George's is on the list The rest have strong to decent lax programs and academics.

I don't think there is a "reasonable" amount of schools to apply to... It's exactly like college. The best amount is probably 4 to 6 ish, because you can apply to one or two schools that you are confident you can get in, and the rest challenging schools. And, it will not be of a huge financial burden.

For the school cuttings, I definitely say DONT CUT Choate, Deerfield, Andover, SPS, and Exeter. I think you would know why without me saying anything. But I think the schools that you and your son should cut off are the schools which doesn't really match him. For example, if your son is into history, then cut off those schools that have few classes and places for him to learn more about it. It's just like picking Julliard Music School when you want to be a computer science major.

Even though I'm also an applicant for the 2008/2009 school year.. hope I helped at least a little :)

i'm applying to five: andover, exeter, taft, st. pauls and the hill school.

Due to the fact i live on the west coats and plane tickets aren't exactly, er, cheap, i've only seen andover and exeter. how did you like st. pauls?
