I have a great interest in both the military and space. After graduation/service, I'm hoping that I can work at NASA. I'm thinking of a career more as an engineer/scientist, though I wouldn't mind being an astronaut either. Would going through USNA be a viable option?

I believe USNA has had more astronauts than any other institution, starting with #1 …Alan Shepard. Purdue’s had a bunch too. Most recently, a Navy SEAL was on a mission. Several appropriate majors for your interests, and the thing that cannot be measured is the exposure Mids receive to real players in the game you’re considering. USNA has a major advantage to other SAs in this regard by its location. Close to where so much of “it” is happening and those making “it” happen. While other academic institutions could land you on the moon and/or guiding some aspect of the process, there are none who’ve done so more productively and successfully than USNA. Also, don’t know specifically about NASA, and all are quite competitive, but USNA has a variety of incredible internship experiences that would fuel your jets!

Good luck! Go get 'em! :D

P.S. Even more anecdotally, if you’ve not seen “October Sky,” do! A wonderful movie about a real-life NASA engineer …and how he got there.

It would be an EXCELLENT option.

btw, the aeronautical engineering major has an “astronautical” track, I believe …

Take to USAFA before you decide.

USNA has had half of the men on the moon (6 i believe, though I may be wrong) and had graduates on over half of the apollo missions. We still have the greatest number of astronauts than any other institution in the country.
