NASS physical aspects

First of all, Im in session 3, and super excited leave for Annapolis on the 17th! I know that running is highly stressed while at the summer seminar, but I currently have a stress fracture and wanted to know if I would be able to sit out of some of the running because I do not want to be injured for my cross-country season come fall. I would be able to complete all the running that would be asked, I know I can take the pain, but its just a matter of if they would let me do something else instead.

funny you should say that. i'm in session three as well, and i just found out that i also have a stress fracture. with cross country in the fall, like you, i am a little nervous. i am a little concerned about whats gonna happen with the running there, but at this point, and with this opportunity, i think im just going to have to suck it up and work while im there! where is your stress fracture?

yeah man. I would just take a lot of advil and do it. Even if your're truly hurt, it does not look good to have you sitting on the side while everyone else is working.

Right shin, smack dab in the middle (inside of the leg). Yea, I plan on just running through it, maybe we can be gimps together when we get there :). Hope to see you there!

Right shin, inside of the leg. I plan on just running through it because I have all of July and some of August to heal up. Maybe we can be gimps together there :). Wheres yours at?? Hope to see you there!

mines the right shin as well haha. mines a little bit lower than the middle but same idea. it feels fine to walk on it and stuff, its had since the end of my track season to start healing, but i only just found out about it on tuesday when i followed up the pain i had during the season with a doctor's appt. its good to know someone will be in the same situation as me!

My advice: Don't screw yourselves over. I mean, really, watch it. Stress fractures can just get worse. I know it's hard to rest, but you'll be thankful that you've rested one week now than a whole month (or more) later.

USNA does not want you to hurt yourselves during the summer program. The worse thing that can happen is that you don't take or don't pass the CFA. You can always take it as soon as school starts when you're healed. I think it would be really hard to miss your senior year sports season because you have suffered a more serious injury that hasn't allowed you to train properly over the summer. Let the stress facture heal.

Right, not that you guys will do this...but I remember people sitting on the side purposely trying to get out of things. Just show the cadre that you are really trying to fight through it. Obviously don't over tax your body so that you get hurt.

Yeah guys, I ended up with a BAD stress fracture back in cross country, and it took two months in a moon-boot and another month of slow jogging before I could actually run again. Seriously, don't do anything to hard/fast, because missing half of senior xc sucks bad.
