when do the NASS applications close?
And you dont need a sport, if your otherwise well rounded. Remember 9% of those accepted didnt have letters.

It IS possible to be appointed without having any sports, but that's mostly dependent upon where you're from. As I said, a slate full of sub-par candidates who took a sport (nominated due to small application number for that area) won't have as high a Whole Candidate Score as you.

If, however, you're from anywhere other than a desolate woodland, you'll have a hard time.

the stats say that 9% didn't receive a letter, and a little bit less didn't participate in varsity sports. the stats, however, don't say anything about jv or club sports.

Yeah, I have a feeling most of the 9% joined their senior year simply to get something in. So it's probably only around 3% that didn't do a sport, and they probably had 4.14 GPAs, 1st in class, and president of everything at their school. Heh, the more I think about it, the more I realize that thin envelope has a VERY high chance of coming soon.

I would say that it does look prestigious when considered by other colleges. I was fortunate enough to be accepted to NASS and I also received an Award at the ceremony (Iron Michelle). I added both of these accomplishments to my Resume. At every interview I have had regarding a nomination or a college I give the interviewee a copy of my resume and other copies of outstanding accomplishments. I cannot tell you how many times the fact that I attended the NASS and AFASS was brought up in conversation. It shows initiative and a certain drive in an individual. Especially when you are taking a week out of your summer to do such a thing ;-) It was one of the best experiences of my life and I would highly recommend applying. Best of Luck.

academyfan: Last year, the NASS closing date was in March, the 15th, I believe. A quick review of the NASS part of the USNA web site did not indicate the closing date, but it did say that the regular preliminary application for USNA would open on 1 April. So, anyone who wants to apply for NASS should get it done quickly.

I would apply to NASS even if you don't have a sport. Prove to the academy that you are physically fit by performing well on the CFA. Join something and be sure to talk to admissions and ask a lot of questions. GOODLUCK!
