National Achievement scholar

Hey i'm new to the forum but i had a question. I recieved a letter from Carleton College telling me that that i may have been selected for the National Achievement Scholarship Program and that i should keep in mind that they give $2000 in aid to those who are. Does this mean that i might have been chosen? i got a 189 on the PSAT this year (400 points lower then i did sophomore year).

Decisions for your year won't be until next year this time. Perhaps this means you are likely to at least meet the threshold for commended. 1890 was about my D's junior year PSAT and she was commended.

thanx a lot! did being commended help her get into the colleges she wanted?

Well she's only gotten a few acceptances so far and it's hard to say why. She got invites to visit places ( one that is now number one on her list and we would have not thought of it without that invite), probably because of her PSAT's or SAT's, but her SAT's were a bit better.

where'd she get accepted? does she know where she wants to go yet?

wow how'd u get 400 points lower

i fell asleep during the reading section....

^lol that is awesome!!

lol sophomore year i pulled off a 73 in that section and this year a 61. i'm just hoping that a 189 is high enough for at least commemoration.

I think a good SAT is more important than national achievement.

BTW, she's in at Santa Clara, Spelman, and Mills. Scripps is HER first choice.

Check out this thread

yeh i take it next month...hope i don't fall asleep this year!

judging by the capitolized HER i'm guessing u want her to go elsewhere

Shhhhhhhh!

Well it's very expensive, not so diverse, not "urban", and their big merit money has already been given out ( and not to her!). Most of the schools she's been accepted to are offering her good merit money....some of her other choices include the UC's which are very affordable for us...and she won't be getting any need based aid.

lol i understand that! my parents are currently paying two $12,500 a year tuitions for mine and my sisters high school education. Any money at all for college will be well appreciated. Do u think being comemorated for the national acievement program helped her get offered any college money? Did u guys try applying to the black student fund for grants? i know some kids who got those
