Honestly, if you're having to pay for it and are only going to be on some list, it's really not worth it. Your transcript and gpa are what they go off of and employers have access to that (i.e., when you apply you give that to them), so all any such honors list is doing is stroking your ego....which you evidently need stroked, so please do waste your money on this; it sounds like you need the ego boost!

...Unless you just really want to be able to tack that "award" on your wall to show off that you were in the top 25% of students that year.... (along with a few million other people that year who opted out of an "award")

Wait! I have an idea. I think I'll start a new service... it'll be the National Provost General's Roll of Scholars. It starts today and is only $10 to join!

Rule of thumb... any 'award' that requires a payment to receive the 'award' is likely not worth the paper it's printed on.

This is a good rule of thumb, but it's not foolproof. Even Phi Beta Kappa requires fees. If you're really not sure whether something is legit, may as well play it safe and ask. That's part of what CC (not to mention google...) is here for.
