National Honor Society - to put or not?

If I have an extra EC space on the common app, should I put National Honor Society or not?

If you’re the president.

Sure, put it down. It’s only on CC where students look down on NHS.

Some colleges even give merit scholarships to NHS members.

Even at places like HPYS – where probably virtually all applicants qualify for NHS – the adcoms aren’t going to laugh at you for putting down NHS. Membership or even an office in NHS just isn’t likely at HPYS schools to make you stand out in the pool.

High schools have the option from the NHS to set their own requirements, surpassing those required by the NHS. My son’s school requires a 3.6 gpa with X amount of points given for ECs.
Some schools( Washington College in Chestertown MD) will deduct tuition ($10,000) for NHS members.
It’s not something to dismiss without further investigation. Check wih your guidance office, rather than CC posters.
