what is HPYS?

NHS is a boring EC if you're applying to top colleges. Everyone has it. I bet they'll see an applicant without it in a unique light. Instead of attending boring, pointless, inane NHS meetings, find something you're passionate about and pursue that. Trust me, colleges would like that a lot more.

HPYS= Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Stanford

My NHS, I believe a good 20 to 30% of my class of 400 was finally let in. Anyone who had above a 3.0 was basically guaranteed admission. Our inaugeration was in the auditorium.

for my school, its completely based on teacher's recommendation so all the kids who kiss the teacher's a** get it. most of them don't deserve really.

You first are nominated for it at my school which consists of having above a 93% average or higher, then you go through an interview with about 6 teachers who are on what we call the Academic Board. One teacher on the board presents you to the other teachers and then you answer their questions. You also have to fill out an application. And to even be considered for NHS, you have to have a leadership position and hold it while you are enrolled in NHS. I am secretary of NHS so there's my leadership lol You also have to do 2 service projects per semester or you go on probation. It's pretty serious at my school too.
