National Honors Society

simply what is National Honors Society
and how do i apply this???because every ccers seem to have this...

Every school is different. Like at my school, if you have a 3.8 or above, you are invited to apply and from that pool they take 1/4 or so of the applicants. Then you have to do 6 out of 8 or 9 given service projects. If you don't do them all or get a C, you are kicked out.

But then some schools all you need is a 3.0 and you can apply yourself. Ask your counselor.

Yeah...basically its pointless

I think it is what you make of it. It is selective at my daughter's school, but just being in NHS would have not really added to her resume. She, however, through her NHS presidency headed a couple of really visible service projects, made close friends with the sponsor and co-sponsor, who became huge advocates for her in other arenas, and served as MC for some community events. It turned out to be a win/win for her because she was visible in a positive way not only to other students, but also to our community.

Remember too that many of the admissions counselors familiar with your high school will know whether your chapter of NHS is selective or not, and what it involves once you're in. So it could in fact be a positive on an application to a college that really knows your high school.

My NHS chapter requires 3.75 cumulative UW GPA and a number of credits, so it's not very selective. About 100 people from 600 are inducted every year. >_>

I think about the top half of our class will be inducted (out of 300)

the valedictorian of my school was rejected from NHS. I think NHS is pointless

My daughter just got $500 from her school for being NHS president. And the VP did too. Not all schools do this I'm sure but I would not say that NHS is "pointless". :)

I'm part of our school's NHS and I have to say, it's not very selective. Nor do the community service projects we do actually pan out. The officers are the most popular kids who voted on each other and they don't really do much.

I was expecting so many things from NHS and I guess I'm just disappointed on how things really are. This year's election was a farce and I'm just staying because it's expected. With the way things are going, I don't even have to sacrifice much of my time for it.

so its totally depends on school....?

yea and the teachers in charge of it at your school
