K so I know this is a weird question but what happens if you make the cut for national merit and like you take the sat that is required to confirm that score. But you can't seem to get that high, is the national merit taken away? Let's say you just did really good on that PSAT test day for some reason.

The SAT score is to make it to the finalists. If you don’t, you’re basically at semi-finalist.

So is there any value of semi finalist? Do they still get scholarships?

You don’t have to get the same score on the SAT as you did on the PSAT - you just have to make around 2000. So even if you got 230 on PSAT, you don’t need a 2300 on SAT to pass on to finalist.

The NMF doesn’t give scholarships to semifinalists. Some colleges use semifinalist status to give college-sponsored scholarships that are not administered by NMF. This is true in part because finalists aren’t announced until after college application deadlines have passed.

There is a NMF subforum in the Financial Aid forum that has lots of great, detailed information that might help you.
