National Merit Scholarship help - filling out the "College and Career Plans" part?

I’m filling out my NMF application now (as it’s due on Monday!) and I’m not sure how to approach the College and Career Plans part. My true first choice college is not a NMF sponsor, and as for my major/career, I’m undecided but leaning towards the social sciences or humanities (psychology). One of the colleges I’m applying EA to (UChicago) is one of the college sponsors. Would it be okay if I just mark undecided for first choice college (or should I just mark UChicago) and undecided for major/career (or should I just mark psychology), or would that just look bad if I’m all undecided? Thank you!

I don’t know about the major/career part of it, but in terms of your first choice college, you can change that every week if you want to! My son put one school as his first choice school initially, but when he got a likely letter from an Ivy he just went in and changed it. You can change it numerous times, in response to whatever happens along the way to you in terms of acceptances or changes in your thinking. I don’t think that aspect of the application has any effect whatsoever on whether or not you become a semifinalist and then a finalist. It only matters if you want to ensure that you get one of the college-sponsored scholarships, since they are oftentimes more money. Given that, I would put UChicago as your first choice, see how that works out for you in terms of acceptance, and then go in and change it to something else if you don’t get accepted there. I found their system and rules very confusing, and had to call and speak to someone there to make sure I understood the entire process, and the different groups of scholarships. You may want to do that, it was very instructive!

Thanks @b1ggreenca!
