I'm a national merit semifinalist (and finalist hopeful) and was wondering if Stanford has a scholarship program regarding the national merit program. If not, would it just be a waste to name Stanford as my "number one school" on the national merit program, even if it really is my number one school? I'm just confused about the whole way the NM system of scholarships works. Thanks!

Stanford does not give merit scholarships for NMF.

If one of the schools that you’re applying to does give NMF scholarships, then name one of those as your first choice.

You don’t have to name a first choice yet. You can wait…unless one of your schools has a strict earlier deadline for naming as first choice.

Look at the [National Merit Scholarship student guide for 2012](http://www.nationalmerit.org/student_guide.pdf) to see what schools offered scholarships for the current school year.
