National Society of Collegiate Scholars

The game is that you are supposed to take a shot for each person with no prior posts who posts saying it’s valuable. (Diet Coke for me.)

Assuming shayquigley is a real student, I note again that one way an organization like this keeps itself going is by giving scholarships to a few students, and by spending money on a few campus chapters. If you can get the benefit, then good for you. Most people, however, will see no net benefit.

Lol I remember when I got invited to this last year. Don’t bother going, this is entirely a way for them to get free bucks. Search on yahoo, this program is indeed a scam, and literally everyone gets sent that mail, so there’s really no scholarly society.

I don’t necessarily agree with this. Phi Beta Kappa charges a fee, as does Phi Kappa Phi. Being charged a membership fee is not an indication of quality (or worthiness) of the organization.

Those are well known societies^, but whats being discussed about is utterly useless.

Sent from my Desire HD using CC

Agreed. But to make a blanket statement saying “If you have to pay, NO WAY!” is wrong.

Years ago we had Who’s Who’s of American Teachers for my wife, for myself it was American Business. We never parted with the money to have our name in print, but was tempted to have a star named after us with a map of the galaxies for $39. I held out on naming a planet for our family name, but no one could come up with credible paperwork.

I became a member of NSCS as an Undergraduate and now work for the organization. It’s unfortunate that many people feel the need to come online and state that NSCS is a scam. May I ask what is gained by such unwarranted negativity and hate?

What is gained is preventing people spending their money on something that gets them absolutely nothing.

Unwarranted hate? Your “program” NSCS is a pretty crafty avenue to gain undeserved money. You can look at all those top notch kids that go to ivies, I bet you none of them attended your “scholastic society.” at best, you guys should be called the hustlers. As stated above, NSCS is useless

I was wary at first about paying to be a member when I got my invite, but I’m so glad that I did it. It offers scholarships, contacts, as much interaction as you want. There is no pressure to attend anything and you are always welcomed into whatever you do decide to attend. If nothing else, being a member looks great on a resume. It will put you at the head of the line with employers. I highly recommend joining.

I disagree, I am the only student in any of my classes that’s received an invite and I’m proud to be recognized for all of my hard work. You have to be nominated by your college to receive a membership invitation, and you have to have a GPA of at least a 3.4. Nobody has the right to minimize the recognition that we receive for working hard and trying to better ourselves.

Everybody take a shot!

I’ll have a go: "If nothing else, being a member looks great on a resume. It will put you at the head of the line with employers. I highly recommend joining. "

bellagirl: you’re full of crap. How the heck is a resume item that you pay for, have no obligations to “going to put you at the head of the line”? Go find some Nigerian prince to take you out.

Another company shill. Pathetic!

Please, NSCS, stop hiding behind new CC identities to post the same old malarkey. It doesn’t convince anyone, and it doesn’t make you look good (though it does increase the per capita consumption of alcohol by CC parents). Besides, using CC to promote your business and registering under multiple identities are violations of CC’s terms of service. Why would anyone want to join an organization with such poor business ethics?

Hello, I just got an email about NSCS, and I am very skeptical because I have never heard of it and there is a fee of $95. Is it worth it and what do they help you with overall?

Don’t you think it’s more appropriate for you to take the time to read this thread, which has all the info you need, than to expect anyone else to take the time to respond to your post?

idancecullen- ^^^^^ you only have to read a few posts back. It is an award you pay to have and means nothing, except you paid them to give it to you.

i just got the email today.
i searched around and got the site for my schools chapter ([NSCS University of Houston Chapter-Home Page](http://www.uh.edu/nscs/index.html)). ive never heard of it before but when i was in highschool so long ago i wasnt paying attention to grades…
what makes me think its legit is that Dr. Simon Bott is the Chapter Advisor. Dr. Bott is one of the best professors on campus and high involved with campus activites

https://www.youtube.com/results?q=simon+bott+university+of+houston&hl=en&safe=off&biw=1600&bih=815&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=w1</a></p>

[Simon Bott](http://www.chem.uh.edu/people/faculty/bott/index.php)

take it for what its worth
GO COOGS!

And once again a brand new poster is defending this scam.

yup im brand new
because ive never needed to use this site before since i didn’t need to search for a university to attend nor are my kids old enough to go to university yet
i gave information i found out so others could judge for themselves
from your posts you seem to be just another wanker who doesn’t let facts get in the way of his own so lofty opinion…
