National Society of Collegiate Scholars

Hello everyone!
I am a sophomore at northeastern, looking to transfer to Emerson. I just received an invitation to join the national society of collegiate scholars. Is this a real thing? Is it worth joining? I have a 3.6, if that matters.

there was a past thread on this exact topic:

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/462899-national-society-collegiate-scholars.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/462899-national-society-collegiate-scholars.html</a></p>

IMO, it isnt worth it(i.e. any prestige club that requires an entrance fee is ridiculous)

yeah the NSCS is literally stalking me at this point. they've sent numerous letters to my school and parents, e-mailed me a few times, and keep asking me to respond so they can let me know when the induction ceremony is.

haha, maybe you should tell them you'll join if the admission fee is dropped....then the stalking will cease.

you must've done a really well last semester

My son has been "offered" this honor numerous times--and he (quite properly) just keeps throwing the junk mail away.

P.S. They also try to tell you that if you join and pay the fee then you have a better chance at one of their scholarships. It's basically a different version of that Ghana bank con deal--where they want to share their fortune with you, but you need to give them your bank account number and pay a small "processing" fee of $15,000 upfront before they give you your share of the $20,000,000 lottery win.

Translation: Don't be conned by scammers.
