National Student Leadership Conference - Summer program?

Today I received information from NSLC. I'm aware that it's not a huge special deal to get an "invitation" and that it's a marketing strategy and all. But, I was just wondering what people know about the summer theatre program. I have been considering trying to fit a summer program into my schedule this summer, but I'm not sure how this one would measure up to one through a university. It sounds neat, but I'd like to hear something from someone who has firsthand experience with it/knows someone personally who attended.

So, does anyone by any chance have experience with the theatre program/have an opinion as to whether this program or one through a university would be more beneficial to me?

There are some fantastic summer programs that focus on theatre/musical theater. Some of the ones I would suggest you look into are TPAP, OCU, CCM, mPulse, ArtsBridge, Indiana, University of the Arts, Boston Conservatory, Boston University, Northwestern, Carnegie Mellon, Interlochen, French Woods, Stagedoor Manor. There is a list of summer programs in a different thread. I would check it out. These programs are all different in how long they are, how much they cost and their format. It is nice to attend a camp on a college campus to get an idea of what college living is like. But you also want to make sure you get training that is helpful to you. All of those I’ve mentioned above have great training.
I do not have firsthand experience with NSLC. You might inquire as to who the teachers will be and what you will be learning. But if you want a high level of theatre training, I think you may want to consider a summer program from some of the schools who offer that as a degree.

The NSLC is a big scam. They try to pull students in by trying to make a big deal out of there “prestigious program”. If it was as prestigious as they are advertising they wouldn’t be making students pay these overpriced amounts nor charge them for meals and transportation lol. Save your money or try to take some courses (in something your interested in) at a REAL at a community college. University admissions officers know the games behind these Leadership Conferences. If I were you and wanted to make a good impression for college I would volunteer, join some clubs, and take rigorous courses. This 1-2 week trip will mean nothing, colleges want to see a steady and thorough resume not a 1-2 week vacation in which you can buy your way in.

@ChicagoBulls232‌ I can’t comment on NSLC - but I do feel compelled to state that a 2-3 or 6 week summer intensive in Music Theatre or Dance is not a waste of time/money if you are seriously pursuing a slot at an audition based program. (This is a Musical Theater Major Thread) So, you may be correct about the other disciplines - or even correct about the NSLC as a whole (I have zero experience) But, for the major that students/parents in this forum are planning to pursue - a summer program can be a very valuable investment… and a much wiser investment than courses at a community college (JUST FOR THESE TYPES OF MAJORS) Often summer programs help students make both college and industry connections - neither of which would be available in a community college course.
