nat'l merit first choice college question

Do admissions departments see a nat'l merit semifinalist's first choice college named on the NMSQT finalist application? If so, does it affect their decision in any way?

I've seen the advice to put "undecided" to keep your options open in case you are not accepted at your first choice college. This makes sense, but if admissions departments are privy to the information that you have put their college down as your first choice, maybe they would be more likely to accept you?

Thanks for any input.

I don’t think they see it and it definitely does not affect decisions. Students have until after college selection to choose their first choice for a reason. So they can match that choice up with a school that selects them (and potentially get scholarship $).
