Naviance recommendations when teacher no longer works at the school

One of my daughter’s recommendation writers will not be returning to our school this coming year. Her district uses Naviance, which only allows you to send recommendation requests to current faculty. Surely this can’t be a unique situation; is there a workaround that’s easier than paper forms? The Other Recommender option doesn’t really seem appropriate.

Discuss with your guidance counselor. This can’t be the first time this happened.

This situation came up and the teacher wrote it while working at their new school and sent via snail mail. No workaround found at the high school with the all Naviance policy

We used the “Invite Other Recommender” option on the Common App, instead of Naviance, to send a request directly to S1’s teacher who is no longer at the school, and to his coach, since the coach isn’t actually staff at the high school, so he’s not available on the high school’s drop-down list of recommenders in Naviance. We also have one school on the list that still does an all paper application, so for that one, we’re planning to print out the recommender form to send directly to the teacher who moved to a different district, and including a stamped envelope with it so they can send it directly to the college.

My daughter’s school was willing to add the teacher back in temporarily so she could submit through Naviance (so that we didn’t have to list her as an “Other” recommender)
