Well, it was nice to see the support the Mids got when exiting the stadium on saturday....a lot of the gatekeepers....the yellow-jacketed stadium staff that man the gates/collect the tickets...applauded the mids as they exited Gate A with lots of comments like "nice job- next year for sure- you will get them next year...every year a few yards closer".... things like that... it actually made a few of the mids smile!

my dad went to Navy, so naturally I used to be a Navy fan. I still cheer for them when they aren't playing Army. I sure as hell cheer for them against Air Force. Navy will get them one of this years. Each year they get better. I just think they need a QB who can run the option and throw the ball. They have trouble against ligitimate opponents all the time. Running the triple option will beat bad teams any day, but if they play teams with high-powered, pro-styled offenses, it is nearly impossible to make any kind of comeback when they cannot pass the ball. I think thats all they need to make it to the next level and start beating ranked opponents. Army on the otherhand has a ways to go. Looks like we found a QB, but now we just need consistency.

Despite the long-running streak, quite a few of the games in the last decade have been close, with a few real scares for ND.

Navy -- Notre Dame 2003

I vividly remember listening to the end of this game in my car at the grocery store parking lot on a Chicago radio station 1000 miles away.

-
from USA today 11/7/03

"Eckel and quarterback Craig Candeto will lead the Middies (6-3) against Notre Dame (2-6) on Saturday in South Bend, Ind. Navy's triple-option offense is No. 1 in the USA in rushing at 309.6 yards a game. Eckel ranks 36th in rushing at 89.6 yards, and Candeto is tied for 41st at 85.2.
