<p>I am trying to choose between the pricey Cornell and NC State (In-State) for an engineering major.
How good is NC State engineering and its prestige? For that matter, how important is prestige?
Is it worth going to Cornell in the long run or can NC State save me a LOT of money and still get me into an equally good grad school/job placement?</p>

<p>Don’t know how important prestige is when it come to engineering. My uncle has a nuclear and mechanical engineering degree from NC State and he works for a nuclear plant in Florida. He’s never had a problem finding a job.</p>
<p>I’ve heard that for engineering, where you go for undergrad is not as important.
I’m planning on going on to graduate school and I know NCSU sends a few grads to great schools (don’t know how many, exactly). But how hard is it to get to a great grad school from NCSU compared to, say, Duke or Stanford?</p>

<p>I got my engineering degree from Cornell many years ago. My son is currently in engineering at NCSU. I believe he is getting an equivient education and will have no trouble finding a good job or getting into grad school. The main difference I see is Cornell provided more support when you needed help. For example at NCSU most calculus classes meet daily with a Professor. The Professor was not always easily accessable outside of class. At Cornell the calculus classes meet 3 days a week for a lecture, but also included a problem secsion with a TA where you can easily get individual attention. If cost where no object (and it was not for me since I was NROTC scholorship) I would pick Cornell, but not nessasarly for the engineering classes.</p>
