If he isn’t totally opposed to staying in New England, how about UVM - great little city, excellent outdoors opportunities, about the right size and he might get some merit (a lot of kids from our HS in MA get enough to bring it in line with the cost of UMASS).
Haslam College of Business at UT does a good job with their students, and is well-funded; the Supply Chain Management program is highly ranked nationally.
If the OP has any questions about UTK, please feel free to send me a PM.
He won’t get $ from Villanova and it’s $$$$. UD is right off of 95, my daughter is in honors and graduating in May (a year early) and loves the school (plus they gave her decent $ unlike Villanova).
My son is a TCNJ graduate and really liked it there (and graduated with a great job he got thanks to his business fraternity alumni).
Drive a little farther South & visit Clemson University. (Not sure, but I believe that it has a football team.)
Apply to Iowa State University even though not on your travel route. Strong football team & great school spirit.
Both have Greek life.
P.S. Just checked. Yes, Clemson University does have a football team.
Are you kidding about Clemson might having a football team? Clemson has a huge football following, the stadium is the size of an NFL stadium, orange tiger paws everywhere. It’s crazy.
Pretty sure he was kidding!
I guarantee he’s kidding.
It may be out of the way but I’d suggest Union. Test optional so you may not want to submit (I know a lot of people that don’t). I’m currently a rising senior on campus and we’re known for being a small school that feels like a big university. Sports / Greek culture is strong on campus. Easy to get to the Adirondacks, NYC and Boston, lots of skiing / hiking around here, and Schenectady is a nice area. Let me know if you have any questions!
@MAmom111 Any thoughts on Major? Considering he’s at the beginning of the process it may be helpful to just see a bunch of different types of schools as apposed to trying to see a bunch that you think might be a fit. If after the trip he likes a school like St Joes, then you can plan for a more targeted list (Scranton, Fairfield, Manahattan, Seton Hall).
Philadelphia are is a great place to kickoff your search process because there are so many different types of schools all within a small radius.
You can do a quick drive by through Villanova, Haverford, Bryn Mawr to just get a feel for those, then maybe do a tour at St Joes, then hit Drexel and Temple. If you want to add a more Urban environment. On your way out you could swing past Swarthmore to get a feel for an LAC college and then head down to UDel for a look at a State school.
You also have La Salle, West Chester, TCNJ all under an hour
Maybe a miniversity? I second your endorsement of Union.
Iowa State also gives you same day acceptance
