NCSU Regular Decision Fall 2023- Class of 2027

Anyone know how good the chances are if you were waitlisted for June 2023, instead of Jan 2024.

According to Collegevine:

The bad news is that NC State doesn’t really use its waitlist very actively. In 2018, over 4000 students accepted spots on the waitlist, but only 20 were ultimately accepted. That means less than 1% of students on the waitlist were ultimately accepted.

Did you apply to enroll in Jan 2024, or are you discussing the spring connect program for those that applied for fall 2023? The spring connect admits were notified yesterday. Waitlist is unfortunately low odds. NCSU has a prediction of how many admitted students will accept/decline, and they have to get more declines than they expected before tapping into the waitlist.

Son has similar stats also waitlisted, also surprised. There seems to be little logic behind who was accepted this year (we know of applicants that got into VT and UNC-Chapel Hill but not NC State). Disappointed but my son has other compelling options, it’s State’s loss!

I got waitlisted with these stats:
4.21 Weighted GPA out of 5
3.64 Unweighted GPA out of 4
Class rank: 96/300
Test Optional(1290 with 610 EBRW and 680 Math)–Should I have sent in my test scores?
300 hours of volunteering
Chess club
Esports team
So should I have sent in my SAT scores or not for College of Engineering?

Also, I got waitlisted AFTER being deferred

To give some perspective, (although high school comparisons are hard bc admissions compares students within their high school . High schools have different rigor, and class availability etc…And there are other factors too, IN state vs OOS is also a factor I believe)

My student was waitlisted also. (Deferrred EA)Stats are:
OOS
GPA 98/100.
Rank: 50/350
ACT: 32 (I think it converts to around 1430 SAT
6 AP, 2 DE, rest honors classes
NHS, French NHS, tri M honors, swim team, 4 year marching band, 4,years concert and jazz band, science league, life guard, water safety instructor.

Best of luck to you. I’m sure you have many other great options. My student had moved on anyway and committed to Virginia Tech, so it wouldn’t have made a difference even if he was admitted.

Yup, I am going to UNC Charlotte now that I got waitlisted, I aint waiting so I am not accepting my spot at NC State anymore. Goodbye NC State and thank you all so much for all the support you all provided me. I guess 680 math was not as bad as I thought it was even for engineering. I should have submitted it. Lesson learned and wont happen again. Time to move on.

I would accept the Charlotte place and stay on the wait list at NC State. It can’t hurt. Just submit a letter of continued interest to admissions and your local admissions rep. You can always turn it down and if you do end up getting in you just lose the deposit at Charlotte. Nothing to lose. My oldest daughter got into her dream school this way.

Accepted to engineering at VT and Clemson OOS. Waitlisted NCSU in-state 1530 SAT. Crazy that we have to pay for OOS for engineering.

We’re just the opposite. Virginia resident - waitlisted at VT (engineering) but accepted (and in the Honors Program) at NCSU as a Nuclear Engineer - 1550 SAT. Must be going for the OOS bucks…

Same here…(except not engineering) Accepted Virginia Tech and Clemson, waitlisted NCS. They are all OOS for us, but mine committed to VT already , so it didn’t really matter since it was his #1. It is crazy that you are in state. VT for engineering is top notch though, congrats and best of luck to your student!

My son did too. Got deferred then waitlisted for June

My son is also moving on. He is disappointed but surprisingly not terribly. Things happen for a reason always and he said the suicides at Nc state bother him and the pressure seems too much there. So for him probably for the best. An engineering degree shouldnt be so miserable and high stress that kids are killing themselves. NC state seems to have a problem and there is a high pressure culture culture that isnt the best. Too much for many kids. And it is ok to recognize that and be at a different college where life can be enjoyed more

Totally agree. My son has also moved on.

So does everyone get a unity ID when you apply even if you arent admitted? I tried changing the password and it didnt let me and sent me an email to my personal email and it also sait the email was to an ncsu email with my name that said “An unsuccessful attempt was made to change your NC State Unity password” is this a good or bad sign?
