i just got an email today saying i was an honorable mention! After we’ve got an email, should we respond or anything? Or do I just show up to the banquet?
@gkfang CONGRATS!! I think you just show up to the banquet. I haven’t received an official email yet about getting an award, but I know others that are in the same boat.
I’ve heard the banquets are awesome! (((;
My daughter received three separate emails at the same time. One notifying her that she was a State Winner, one inviting her to a Dinner and one inviting her to the FB Page and website to log-in and update her profile and account, if that’s helpful.
@curiouscollege1 I got the email inviting me to the FB group and joined, but still no word on banquet info or that I won state. But others were just talking about it in the group and apparently there are quite a few that were invited to the FB group and saw that they won on the website, but still haven’t gotten anything “official”.
I haven’t gotten an official email yet either
@MyNameIsX NCWIT email finally came! Ohio Affiliate still hasn’t reached out to me.
From what you’ve experienced, when does Ohio usually have their awards ceremony? Also, I just realized! I’ll get to meet you there! XD
Hi everybody! Regional affiliate award winner here. Did anybody get an email saying this “Congratulations on being selected as an NCWIT Aspirations in Computing Awardee! Did you know that you received one of the top scores in the nation on your leadership essay question?” today? I’m just trying to figure out if this is true, or if they’re trying to just raise awareness about the AspireIT program.
@drakonus I received that as well! I was also wondering the same thing.
Honestly, I don’t think they give you enough time to even start an AspireIT program, considering people who only either won state or state honorable mention don’t get officially notified in time in my opinion.
For example, I only found about it a week ago, and I’m still waiting on emails from my local middle school. I may not be able to get a program even registered in time. ): Which is a bummer because I was really hoping to help teach.
@equationlover Yeah! I think I have other plans for summer too, as I’m going to go to college next year. Kind of want to travel the world a bit or explore before another four years of business!
@equationlover Not sure if you’re in the FB group, but I got a very… sassy reply. I asked how many people received a high leadership score, and NCWIT replied more than 1 but less than the maximum number of people who applied. LOL. 8-|
@drakonus I am, and I just looked at that! Hilarious!! I think a lot must have gotten it, considering how many people commented.
By the way, have you ever been to a state banquet before? What are they like? I’m really curious lol.
@equationlover Never been! Apparently there’s great food and cool swag though
@drakonus Not gonna lie, the first thing I was excited about when I read that was the “great food” part. Lol.
Well congrats on winning an award! This is my first year getting one so I’m pretty excited!! (:
Hey guys I new to this thread and an affiliate award winner from Virginia!
Hey! Welcome to this thread! If you have any comments or questions, feel free to ask! We’re just a bunch of teenagers who are excited about computer science LOL! @Lisa_M
@equationlover My first year too!
Just had the Ohio Affiliate and it was so fun!! The swag was nice and the food was great! @MyNameIsX where you there?
“Congratulations! On behalf of the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) Northern Illinois Affiliate Award Committee, I am pleased to inform you that you have been selected as an NCWIT Northern Illinois Affiliate Award for Aspirations in Computing Honorable Mention!” I got this about a 2 months ago and I know I’m late in asking but can anyone explain what it means to be a “Affiliate Award for Aspirations in Computing Honorable Mention”?
@Avelazquez90 There are mutiple levels you can win the award at for just states. Certificate of Distinction, Affiliate Honorable Mention, Affiliate Winner. (If you were a national honorable mention/winner, those are the national awards, and chosen from the whole U.S.)
Basically, when you go to your ceremony, you get really cool swag and there is great food! You also get to hear from speakers and join the NCWIT community, which is the best part! I think the only difference between each level is what you actually get for an award, but I may be mistaken.
Thank you for the info ^-^ I can’t wait for the event >.<
